If it's possible, would you support making the Classified Sections on MAACA "read only" in that only the original poster can update, amend or add to their original listing? Other users wouldn't be able to post follow-ups.
Any follow-up with the seller would be done through EM or PM, or any discussion would have to be carried over to a new thread in a different forum section.
On the PRO side this would help stop members from questioning the seller's values in public, it would help stop arguments about who PM'd their interest in a purchase first, and would stop idle chit chat like "if I only had the money...." and make the classifieds more streamlined.
On the CON side this might result in more administrator work in regulating ads, or dealing with errant sellers. It would make it more difficult to discuss the merits / or warn of the problems of a particular item for sale if you've seen it in person. It might discourage posts of "Not Mine" items, or the usual follow-up surrounding those kinds of finds which can inform buyers.
I am not an administrator of this forum, and the results of this poll would be informal at best, and may not ultimately affect policy on this forum.
I'm probably +15 at least with the "if I weren't a candidate for a country song I'd own that pin" (i.e., no space, no money, wife will leave me, ......) - Sorry Enzo - - usually its to a game/person I have seen so its a partial vouch for the game for sale - but I agree a "useless" post really.
I have learned a lot from a lot of the comments on the for sale replies, ..., we should all just be polite about it...
I have always felt that the classifieds should be read only with any follow-up discussion in another forum. That leaves the original post in-tact and still gives others a chance to comment. Like websherpa, I think the classifieds should be neat and tidy with the conversation happening somewhere else.
One exception... the original author should be able to edit or add to the for sale ad.
Does it really matter? I am sure that there is enough discussion and few enough sales that all your achieving is dividing the location of the commentary with the actual post and that somehow persuades or dissuades a transaction from occuring?
Let me see now. Hmmm. There is an Orbiter 1 I recently saw for sale and I wish to comment on.... I will give you two guesses who's sale it was...... y-e-a-h.....
I hear ya. I just prefer (and it's only my personal preference, not a belief that it must be that way) that the actual ad be read-only. Kinda like a kijji or craigslist ad.

I feel there are enough "read only" sites out there like as you said, Kijiji, Craiglist, or even Mr Pinball classifieds. Usually the only time this place gets weird or out of control is when the sellers are extremely greedy.

If people have a problem with posting to the classifieds because of what others might say, maybe they need to re-evaluate their posts?
It's not rocket science...

Agreed.
Take good pics. Provide a decent and honest description. Set a reasonable price and stick to it. First one on the doorstep with cash in hand takes the deal home.
I've never had a problem posting anything for sale on maaca. And I don't think I'm in the minority.
