What do you mean by a model?

Most insert decals are hot stamped onto plastic using a Gerber or similar thermal transfer press. The artwork is designed on a PC, run through the machine onto clear plastic in reverse print and then adhesive is applied to the printed side.

Gerber machines are capable of a printing in a wide variety of spot and process colors. It is all dependent on how much the printer is willing to invest in their inventory of various color film cartridges as to how accurately they are able to reproduce artwork. Spot color process looks as good as screen printing. Process color, well it looks like process color.

The benefit of using a thermal press is color density and adhesion in the final product. It has the density of screen printing and the same resistance to smearing.

Jeff McAffee at Classic Arcades offers them for a few different machines. He will produce either way reverse or top side print for $60USD a machine... ouch! There is also an Ebayer (not him) that produces only top side printed decals for about half that price.

If you apply decals without clearcoat they won't last long. I would give them a month or so before bubbling.
