There have been many people on the WWW and THIS site who have inspired me to share my experience with everyone on pretty much a complete refurbishment of an old classic(resurrect it from the dead if you will). Who knows somebody might find this interesting and also it keeps me somewhat motivated. My object is to end up with a fully working Williams stargate that looks at least IMHO somewhat like new.Having said that this will be a challenge for me as I`m normally a pin guy and my knowledge of these vids is very limited. The time frame of this project is approximately 6 months unfortunately my time is somewhat limited these days with my basement renovations and my work and most of all my wife and two beautiful girls demand my attention most of the time. Here is a list of things I believe I still need to do and things that have been done.If I have forgotten anything major please post as any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I have taken pictures of things I have aquired and also things I have worked on ALREADY.Sorry I do not have pics of them BEFORE I started with these few items as I just got back my camera yesterday. Completed items and purchases so far!!
1/Cleaned and replaced header pins on mpu and did battery mod. 2/Cleaned monitor chasis and replaced faulty width coil and a complete cap kit. 3/(Cleaned with NOVUS #2 the header marquise) 4/Ordered new cpo. 5/Ordered vinyl stencils for side art. 6/Obtained new switching power supply. 7/Ordered new joystick rebuild kit. 8/Hopefully made contact with someone who can provide missing Bezel.
Things not yet done and parts still needed:
1/Empty out cabinet 2/Sand prime and paint entire cabinet including side art UGGHH. 3/Clean monitor tube as its pretty dirty.COMPLETED November 9/07 4/Install new reproduction cpo overlay. 5/Find a new 18"light for the marquis. 6/Clean out coin box with novus etc.COMPLETED November 9/07 7/Rebuild joystick. 8/Re-wire cabinet. 9/Source out back plates for mpu set and also for original power supply. 10/Install leg levelars and replace damaged mounting brackets for them. 12/Mount cleaned and rebuilt monitor etc. 13/Find or create a upper back door for cabinet as its missing. 14/I know theres more but can`t think of them right now
Ok now hopefully I can figure out how to link my pictures I`ve taken so far so that you can tell what I`m talking about and what it looks like so far.
Ok my first update!!One small job completed .I cleaned up the coin box,I think alot of people would`nt have bothered spending that much time but hey in the end it`s all the little things that make you go WOW.
One thing I noticed while cleaning this was the fact there was almost two holes in it were the quarters fell into the box .Man this machine must have made alot of money back in the day.
Anyway hopefully I can get the monitor tube cleaned up tomorrow and put the chasis back in the frame.

Monitor work now complete.Wifey took the kids to the movies which gave me sometime to work on my project again.Ok so tonight I was able to take the monitor frame off and clean the tube and the frame. Also re-mount the chasis and hook it up etc. From the pictures you can see there is some burn in from a previous game, looks like maybe a Galaga??anyway once I get it back together and get a chance to try it out I`ll see whether to keep the monitor or replace with new but for now I don`t think it will look to bad and shouldn`t effect game play at all especially since stargate has alot of black back ground at least thats my hope.Ok I tried to get it clean with-out getting to aggressive as I was affraid of damaging the tube etc.
A title worth putting the effort into IMHO. If I had the room I would have Stargate, Defender, Robotron, Joust and Turkey Shoot in a lineup, maybe Sinistar too.

Ya they were all awsome unfortunately I`m probably only going to end up with room for two vids so as of now it will be stargate and defender but defender may go as I prefer the game play of stargate. I know you are pretty good at both of these Glen but which one is your favorite and what`s your high scores?I`ll have to fire up defender tonight and see how I do,although I`m quite rusty.

Defender I can roll so the high score is really how long do I feel like playing for.
Stargate I haven't rolled yet. My high score is 539925. I think if I really worked at it for a few days I could roll it too.
I play on default settings.
Given that I still haven't defeated Stargate it's better for me to have the challenge, but I would like a Defender only for the reason that when I was a kid this was the one that I did play and master. So I am on the fence.
Let me know if you decide to sell your Defender down the road. I have no clue where to put it but I would still like one as well.
This project is far from dead in fact its almost done.Anyway here is some of the progress,I`ll try and find pics of other work when time permits. These photos show my work involved in restoring a power supply I bought off of ebay for .99 cents. It came with the back plane however the sound card was part of my purchase of the original project. After carefull examination I found it was not complete and so I replaced the 6808cpu and got Steph to burn me a new rom for it.Although that part is untested it should be good to go.Anyway the before and after pics of the work I did on the power supply are below.
