Alright, I listened to the first sentence about thirty times, and all I can hear is "Alright, I know a lot of you are here from the gerbil community" .... what am I missing here?

The diagrams he shows are from a book I have called "Pinball Wizardry: The Theory and Practice of the Art and Science of Pinball" by Robert Polin and Michael Rain
Good little book, but do you think it's helped me play better? No. I still sometimes forget and put both my flippers up .... and I suck at pinball.
This place seems to have the right formula to have a pinball parlour survive in todays society.
Aren't you a couple of hours from there right now... Or just stop here!!

PS: The closest equivalent of Shorty's in the GTA is probably Mike Hanley's Church of the Silverball (or Howe Machinery Company) in Mississauga, when they have open house or tournament nights.
PPS: Extra Ball may be the greatest thing in individual scoring, but it means private butt kiss in Tournament play (well, at least by the rules played around here).
PPPS: I disagree with the idea that you should stand back from the playfield for a better view. It may give you more leverage for nudging, but in watching all the best ranked players (who happen to be big tall guys), they all seem to tower over and above the playfield as much as possible. I have experimented, and that overhead stance or view flattens the field of vision for better focus and attention to things like the targets at the top of a playfield (think CoTBL here) and it seems to improve both your peripheral vision (which is sensitive to movement at the sides), and your sense of angles of bounce off the flippers. It does mean you have to have a better sense of "where" you want to place the ball before you flip or bounce it.
Is it an atom? No, it's multiball! Complete MAACA-Wacko!

Firstly I am pretty sure he said the "Rue Paul" community, o I it's a bunch of drag queens. Actually the Drupal community would be a bunch of open source computer geeks, which is more likely what this guy is.
Secondly, I agree with what Wayne is saying about stance. Just watch some of the better local players although not ALL are 6'3".
Thirdly, Wayne I really like your new avatar but it makes me thirsty. And I don't think it's really you!

Not necessarily the case. If you see Lyman Sheats style of play he views the pf from down low.

P.S. For those that missed my short-lived "thirsty" avatar - I may bring it back on demand someday. But for the moment I am trying on this "protest" avatar I sort of stole and re-purposed. [I have a penis one in the works - but I'll have to float with this one for a little while....

Wayne, before you go putting all this work into your avatar, why don't you just spare us and use this.

OK, how coincidental is it that a) I've let my hair grow long and I basically look a lot like Lyman, b) my favourite pinballs are STTNG and Gottlieb's Wipe Out and BOTH appear on the Today SHow set behind Bryant and Lyman, c) pretty soon I won't have either of those two pinballs due to my stupid occupation (I've sold both and WO is on it's way to Jester next week), d) I use exactly the same tactics as Lyman on Wipe Out, and e) I have been concerned about my head, neck and back permanently hunching over and forward due to bad posture, too much work at a computer AND my poor pinball stance (i.e. too close) - just like Lyman Sheats!
OMG - If I ever get that pinball geekish - for heaven sake, please shoot me. But someone should shoot Bryant Gumball for his attitude regardless.
BUT, if you'll notice, hovering over the playfield and getting down so you can line up a flipper shot, are pretty close to the same tactics, just going from a 90 degree angle to as close to a 0 degree angle as possible. My theory is that a 45 degree view of the playfield is deceiving to the human eye. But that's jsut my theory.
It's hard to say what works and what doesn't work. Sure there are the basics skills you need to succeed but after that it all comes down to personal preference and what works for you, rather then what works for other people.
Honestly at the higher skill levels I find 90% of what makes a player successful isn't there level of skill, it's their mentality, attitude and their ability to keep calm under the pressure. I know that is the thing I struggle with most when I am playing in a tournament, just staying calm and keeping focused, I've lost in tournaments solely because I couldn't mentally get myself together to play properly and I do my best when I can remain calm and just have fun playing. My 2 cents on the matter anyway.

Never heard about dust off problem and inhalants? Come on? It's almost the same thing as sniffing gas. It does even worse things to men.
Which is why I keep warning people here about using dust off (canned air), or inverting a can of air to use as a freezing spray. The propellants contain some nasty stuff.
