I have been thinking about buying a new spiderman black(specail edition). Just wandering if many have tried playing 1 ? Also it is a lot of money, how do you think it will hold its value ? I know a lot of the new sterns seem to lose value pretty quick, but where this is suppose to be special edition will that make a difference ? I am buing for HUO so after a while if i get tired of playing it i dont want to loose a small fortune. Thanks for any of your thoughts on this.
Great game. Combine No Fear with Attack From Mars. Has the feel of AFM, but different. The shots remind me alot of NF. The game is super fast. I actually like the music now. Wasn't crazy about it at first.
Long term value is really hard to gauge. Like all new pins (same was true for Williams) they lose value immediately after opening the box. How much is hard to determine. Like you said, you will be buying a black and it has a shorter run so that should influence the value. To what extent, no one can be sure.
If you are worried about losing money, buying a new game is not the route to go. Buy a nice HUO game. Of course, that will take time and most likely a trip to the States so you have to add exchange rate, gas, and tax to the equation.
At the end of the day, pinballs depreciation alot less than other entertainment devices. If you buy a Spiderman Black for $5,100 today (taxes in), I imagine you could get $4,600 or so in a year's time. That's only $500 depreciation. Try doing that with an LCD, Plasma, etc.
Why do you want new or HUO if you don't plan on keeping it forever? Just askin.

Spiderman as a game is a blast. When I first played it on route it was just OK and after 3 visits to the arcade I was warming to it. However, I decided to buy Shrek NIB instead while a friend bought a BSM. Long story short, the BSM ended up at my house 5 days later and I play it 10X more than the Shrek even tho I enjoy the Shrek but very different game play.
Spiderman is all about flow and speed and adrenaline rush. I personally love the chrome package but prefer the Red translite rather than the mirrored black backglass but that's just personal taste. As to $, once you open a NIB and aren't keeping it forever then you will lose $ whether limited edition or not I feel. If getting closer to breaking even is important, find a HUO altho most HUO Spiderman pins are red that owners are dumping or upgrading to Black.
Good luck with the purchase. I know the BSM won't be leaving my house. My 0.02 ME
You'll get tired of AFM ... trust me. Did you ROTU yet ? (oh and I'm at "the metal" at Expert )
I will get tired, no doubt... this is my main point overall, i'm even tired of STTNG, sorry Duane, as much as i agree with you, i played it more than enough now, it is time to move on.
I didnt RTU yet... but i demolished my basement thou No pins for me for a good month or two still. They are all gone in storage until the basement is ready again...
Expert.. i'm far from that I play Rockband on HARD if that can be considered good, havent got much time to play that either between the basement and my son starting kindergarden yesterday !

I always assumed people want HUO condition games because they intend on keeping it either forever, or for a really long time. If you just want to have a game, play it to death, then sell it, then isn't having a working, but not cosmetically perfect game, enough?

I'm guessing there are probably some percentage of people who are into HUO exclusively because they don't know how to do repairs, or don't know anyone who can do them for them. Also it could be just worth the extra money to not have to deal with as many repairs.
I'm sure new in box machines go down, but I'd guess it'd be somewhat less than a machine that's been on route for years and years.

Then there are those, like me, that can take care of most basic repairs (replace coil, flippers, wires, and basic board word), and love the minty fresh HUO. If it's a game I want to keep forever, why not buy a HUO one? In the case of Stern (my only HUO game is LOTR), the extra cost from route operated is pretty minor -- actually less than the cost of an NOS Stern playfield. In my mind, the condition warrants the extra cost and I was happy to pay it.
Under the playfield is so clean you can eat off it. I just put on a tube to better distribute the light in the backbox and I had to remove the original tape that was holding it in place.
Just to chime in and second Medvet's opinion. I got Spiderman Black about 1 month ago and while still in the honeymoon phase, I've been playing it everynight since to the detriment of my LOTR. It is fast and just a blast to play. The shaker motor really adds to the immersion when hitting the Sandman. The light show is adrenalin pumping and the beat of the music really adds to the joy of the flow.
Lots of fun.

I didn't mean it to sound like I was sassin' people who don't know how do do repairs (hey, I can only do the very basics myself!).

I have a BSM plus a bunch of other games..... BSM is one of the best games out there in my opinion..It is super quick and very hard to beat I also have a LOTR and a TSPP. The rules are very deep, I'd say about the same depth as LOTR but no where near as deep as a TSPP. If you want a really fun game then you can't go wrong with a BSM. If you are buying it new do yourself a favor and spend the extra $500.00 for A BSM, you get the shaker motor, webbed flipper button protectors and a mirrored back glass.
