Hi, i check more carefully about Stern Lightning and i remark that it is the 1st split level from Stern and it came 4 months after BK, the first split level from Williams. BK: 2 level 12 timed drop down targets 3 ramps 4 flippers Mystery score feature 1 spinner 2x 3x playfield score depending how many balls on the playfield 2 magna save Bonus ball for the best player score 59,000 maximum bonus X5 by shooting the loop Easy to lock and get multiball, just lock 2 or 3 balls to release them Very nice artwork Great voice, sounds and background sounds
Lightning: 2 level 2 ramps 4 flippers 9 drop down targets 9 standup targets (total of 18 !!! ) 2x 3x 4x playfield score in multiball mode, you have to work to get X by shooting the loop Digital bonus display up to 99,000 X5 harder to get X than BK Harder to lock balls and must hit 9 stand up targets to unlock balls Amazing playfield artwork, full of details and very colorfull, very artistic ( I like it very much ) Great voice and sounds
Overall Lightning look harder than BK but did not try it. BK is little more easy and have more features. It is a very nice reply to Williams BK, too bad they make only 2350, maybe a too hard pin for this time and for players money but for the house it look like very fun and challenging. .
Pins Bally: Xenon - Centaur - Fathom(Project) - Embryon(Project) Williams: Black Knight(Huo) - Firepower(Project) Gottlieb: Black Hole - Haunted House Stern: Flight 2000(Project) - Freefall(Project) - Big Game(Project) - Seawitch(Project) - Lightning(project) - Quicksilver(Project) WTB: Catacomb (In any condition) View pics here:http://www.pinballowners.com/hal-9ooo (please vote !!! )
I seem to recall reading in one of the pinball books that it is a strange coincidence that Bally's Flash Gordon, the first two-level PF from Bally, came out about three months after BK.
While FG does not have multi-ball nor magna-save, it does have speech, and also fun in-line drop targets (bonus multiplier) plus the strobe light behind the backglass (top-center).
Cheers, - Sylvain.
