Dont know why but I always thought that the KISS theme sounded like "Sweet Georgia Brown", the original Harlem Globetrotters song (not the pin). Apparently, it is a technologically botched attempt at "I Luv Rock & Roll".
Sound: classic Williams spinners (Alien Poker, Firepower...) (runner-ups: the lightning sound on Flash (I would purposely aim that target over and over as a kid...), spinner on Flash Gordon (amplifies the background sound), the trap door area sound in Haunted House (easily recognizable, the spinner shot in Class of 1812... blablablabla!!!! )
Sound overall: Silverball Mania, Firepower, Flash Gordon, Strange Science, Heavy Metal Meltdown
Background sound: Bally X's and O's (the only word I can come up with to describe it is... monolithic (keeping in mind the monolith from 2001)). Game is merely OK, but the sound kicks a$$. (honorable mentions: Black Hole (during multiball), Gorgar (heartbeat is a perfect match for it))
Background music: Swords of Fury (honorable mentions: Genesis, Haunted House, Fish Tales)
Least favorites:
Sound: The goddamn replay screech on recent games... OMFG... (honorable mention: the cat screeching sound in Escape From the Lost World, "you gonna need a ramp shot" from Cue Ball Wizard, hearing "Shoot the Pyramid" 50000 times on Stargate, )
Sound overall: Gottlieb System One games (zzzzzzzzzz),
Background sound: Space Shuttle (frickin irritating after a while)
Background music: Black Knight 2000 (bloody disco-duck kind of music... I f**king hate it...)

The taste of sounds are VERY different from members to members. One of the best pinball sounds overall and background is Black knight. One of my biggest deception is Black knight 2000, i cannot support to heard this music and the voice again and again !!! Samething for No Fear, music is very boring and voice insuportable.
I like very much early 80's sounds from Flight 2000, Freefall, and others but don't like very much Lightning sounds. Bally sounds are superb. 80's Williams pinball and vids sounds are also fantastic.
One of the most important point for me when buying a pin is SOUNDS and artwork ! For example, Space Invaders gameplay is very simple but sounds and artwork are fantastic. Would like to buy one in the future.
Pins Bally: Xenon - Centaur - Fathom(Project) - Embryon(Project) Williams: Black Knight(Huo) - Firepower(Project) Gottlieb: Black Hole - Haunted House Stern: Flight 2000(Project) - Freefall(Project) - Big Game(Project) - Seawitch(Project) - Lightning(project) - Quicksilver(Project) WTB: Catacomb (In any condition) View pics here:http://www.pinballowners.com/hal-9ooo (please vote !!! )

Indeed tastes are different. I think the music and voice are perfect for No Fear. I really enjoy the music and think Steve's voice is perfect.
I love the music for Shadow. Fantastic. Same with GetAway. Great music and sounds!
I love the sound of a nicely tuned EM especially during bonus. Very cool old school sound.
The voice, heartbeat and spinner on Gorgar are perfect.
Love the quotes on TSPP. I know some say the music gets old, but I hardly hear it as it seems something is always starting and introducing new music. If I recall correctly, one of the quotes is "Cheating makes baby Jesus cry!" when you tilt and I find that funny. I like the Dofman quotes.
Funhouse. Great music and quotes.
Really there are tons of sounds I love on pinball and few that I dislike. None come to mind right away that I dislike.
One thing I found annoying are the sounds on DE games. For their DMD games they started to share sound files and I found that really, really annoying.
The only references i have , since there ' s no arcades anymore in Quebec , thanks to the government , and also the fact that there ' s not to many pin addicts around me , is my owne collection . Hard to classify wich one i like best or worst , since they all have its touch .
I like when you capture the ball on the xenon and she goes " hhaaaa" , just like if she ' s having an orgasma . For the centaur , it ' s the reverberation , the FG set on the groungy sound like if there was bad ground on it and to finish it , the shimes on the mars trek , i ' d say that it beats any shimes . My S&S would be the last and yes , it ' s kind of anoying , since shimes from bally , with its little coils , sound like thin cans ...
own; super straight harlem globetrotters fathom centaur farfalla
for just sound on a pinball. i would say grand lizard makes me very happy when it comes to that. the multiball sounds with the natives chanting is grand. then the big ringing bell for extra ball and free game. let alone all the other great williams sounds.
now for all around voice and sound i would say out my collection i would say bk2k first due to the ladies singing the song and then rocky and bullwinkle due to all the differnt sayings.
bad sounding machine i would put to ESCAPE FROM THE LOST WORLD. can you escape (dong!) wasn't a big fan of its sounds. very poor. but game play was different.

Escape from the Lost World only sounds good when you hit the jackpot (quite difficult, timed, but simple task) or special...the tone of the game completely changes at that point with an unexpected Thai bell sounding riff. Otherwise jungle sounds and some dude taunting you that you cant escape. I just keep the volume low and enjoy the game play.
