So I have put my NBAFB for sale for $1500 on the usually selling sites and selling a pinball machine seems to become an adventure sometimes. Between the people that make appointments and do not show and keep stringing you along and those that want pictures from all angles, much time seems to be wasted for nothing. But my favorite is: "I will give you $1000 cash and pickup today". One guy offered $500 and pickup immediately. Personally I find these offers insulting, but I kindly reply with my best price and never get a response. By the way, my best price is $1350 if someone is interested. Does this happen to you guys also?

I get that as well... for example I had this guy keep trying to offer me a jpac for coney island   jk

but honestly when dealing on forums its always gone well... its when I have sold things on classifieds that people seem to like to string along or offer retarded prices... I just smile at most of the reply's that are outrageous as it makes me have a good laugh

selling a machine must be the worst part of this hobby, like you say ...lowballers and tyre kickers are usually part of sale routine
like me and a fellow member were saying last week sometimes its better to sell to a friend a few bucks cheaper  and avoid all the B.S. than goes into a public sale...
oh BTW ...Got pictures of your game???

14  pins Ahhhhh!,2 jukes,mame,table arcade,vendo39,gun game and  ROBOTRON

There seems to be all kinds of people out there, for sure.

Here's one answer I received from Kijiji Peterborough, when I had posted
my fully shopped Bally Strikes and Spares on their site a few months ago.
I tried to respond, but the email address did not exist:

From: Kijiji Reply (from youwanttoomuch@yahoo.ca)
Date: July 8, 2009 9:19 AM
Subject: Reply to your "FS: 1978 Bally Strikes and Spares pinball machine" Ad on Kijiji

You've received the following reply to your "FS: 1978 Bally Strikes and Spares pinball machine" Ad on Kijiji:

From: youwanttoomuch@yahoo.ca
way too expensive

You can respond to youwanttoomuch@yahoo.ca by replying to this email

... and my machine was fully shopped, 100% working, and below book price.

Hilarious !
Right... Probably from that same person on Kijiji who wants fully working machines for free !
...Heck, I pay good $ for non-working as-is project stuff !!!   Oh well...

I keep smiling, buying, fixing and playing (and a bit of selling) machines,
and dealing with good more serious but fun people instead

Cheers,
- Sylvain.

Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron,
1986 Williams Grand Lizard, 1991 Williams Bride of Pinbot, and a few others.
Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for
one machine on my want list, non-working/unshopped welcome!

I'm playing devil's advocate here but consider the following, especially for non-maaca posters:

- Not everyone understands the value of pinball machines, in fact most don't.  If I had a buck for every time someone said "you paid how much for your pin?" with the idea that I way overpaid...  Average Joe just doesn't know what these are worth.

- For those that do know the value, it's human nature that people want to get a deal, so they'll lowball but sometimes those same people will think the seller is highballing too so their idea might be to meet in the middle.

Yeah, there's always the flip guy who'd love to get a pin at half price just to turn around and sell it for a nice profit, but I think many would be surprised that a lot of the low ball offers are just based on ignorance, rather than someone trying to screw someone else.

I'm sure if I was a seller, I'd probably get frustrated too.

Two comments here: Ok I'll give you $525.00!   Ha ha ha ha. No I'm not one of those retards.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But seriously, a lot of people just want things they cannot afford or sometimes just aren't willing to pay for. They are bitter. I deal with really really rude people fairly regularly through my work.   They behave this way largely since we are talking on the phone and there is no face to face interaction.  Not everyone in the world has as thick a skin as I have had to develop. It really sucks having to see the worst side of people on a daily basis.  Also I  constantly coach and console younger or less experienced people in my office who are devastated by the rude treatment people dish out.

That said, I just never reply to the jerks on Kijiji. I wouldn't give them the satisfaction. And, the less thought you give them, the more you win and they lose.

I think your arguments are flawed, because....

Quoted from The Loafer

- Not everyone understands the value of pinball machines, in fact most don't.  If I had a buck for every time someone said "you paid how much for your pin?" with the idea that I way overpaid...  Average Joe just doesn't know what these are worth.

That might make sense, if the offer didn't also include the sense of urgency to pick it up right away.  The offeree obviously knows they are valuing the item at a lower than market value which is why they want to grab it ASAP, before a better offer comes in.

Quoted from The Loafer

- For those that do know the value, it's human nature that people want to get a deal, so they'll lowball but sometimes those same people will think the seller is highballing too so their idea might be to meet in the middle.

If they know they are lowballing, based on the idea that the item is overpriced, then they have a general grasp of the market.  And in this case, the NBAFB was not priced out of a normal range for this machine.  Its not like some ads where you can tell that the seller does not understand the market (4k for a Capt. Fantastic?  4600 for a GNR?   )  There is negotiating and then there is lowballing.  I don't think throwing out an insulting offer works well, unless you are dealing with someone in a Moroccan bazaar.

Quoted from The Loafer
Yeah, there's always the flip guy who'd love to get a pin at half price just to turn around and sell it for a nice profit, but I think many would be surprised that a lot of the low ball offers are just based on ignorance, rather than someone trying to screw someone else.

Again, when someone says they will pay cash (as opposed to ??? ) and will pick it up immediately, I would guess that they have a rough idea of what is reasonable market value.

Hmmm... so the member with no balls strikes again. His Modus Operandi is the same. Remember the guy that was bashing on GJD, sending emails through Kijiji? He did the same thing... creating a Yahoo email account with a name directly referring to who or what he is crapping on.

Hey buddy... you have NO BALLS. You spend time creating email accounts just to crap on people...YOU ARE A GUTLESS COWARD. A yellow-bellied chickenshit keyboard commando that gets off on pissing people off just to make yourself feel better due to your inferiority complex. Grow up, or grow some balls.

Sorry if I come out as overly brash, but keyboard commandos are a BIG pet peeve of mine. If you are not man enough to say something openly to someone, don't type it either.

and the worst thing about it is that it is not an insulting comment... but an extremely annoying one. If someone posts something for sale and you find it too expensive, JUST LOOK AWAY. Just the fact that this guy took the time to create an email account just to write that just proves to me that he is a sick motherf*****. I bet you anything he is getting off right now just with the attention he got off of this post.

Last thing I write or say about this idiot. This lowest level of prehistoric frogshit of a man doesn't deserve any more of my time or attention.
