Hi there, I read the board a lot but don't post much....

Anyway, I know it's been mentioned once or twice here before from someone close to the organizer, so I thought I would throw it out here and see if anything comes up.

Just stumbled into the 'toronto game room show' website http://www.torontogameroomshow.com/ and was wondering if anyone has any information about it....rough idea of when, where, etc?

Thanks
ryan

ps - I'll return to my lurker status for now, but in the near future I'll have room for more pins and hope to become more involved. I think the board really is a great place with great people and endless knowledge that far outshines the odd 'drama'....

Currently ~~ The Addams Family ~~ Monster Bash
Wanted ~~ MORE! Once there is enough room! 2 pins in a 2 bed apt is enough

I was talking with the organizer on this topic just last Monday.

The hurdle at this point is the venue, they had booked the internatonal center but then ran into some issues.  It seems there is a boardgame show that is happenieng in conjunction with the Home show which is the same weekend that the Toronto Game Room show wanted to happen.  Problem was that the Home show didn't like the name and thought it infringe on their show so the informed the event location that the home show would pull out if the Toronto Game Room show did not change it's name.

The home show being the big dog and the TGRS being just a small fish was forced to change the name so they called themselves the Toronto Pinball Show.

But taking the political postering one step futher the home show has now said they don't want anyone in the inernatonal center the entire weekend their show is going on.  So that is where things are at currently.

Now I guess the question is why not just changes venues, my understanding is that the value they are getting at the internatonal center is not being offered anywhere else.  The space for the cost basically can't be found anywhere else.  Also the other question would be why not change dates, well what they were hoping for was to benifit from the home show by getting some cross visitiors who were their for the home show and might drop into the Game Room show just because they were there already.

Once the venue gets announced things will start to come to light, but until the venue gets anounched they have said there is no point in doing anything if they don't have a place to do it with.

Sounds like the Home Show is going to miss out on the cross promotion benefits, but given enough money for lawyers (or a pro bono competition litigator)  I wonder if they couldn't be taken to court for anti-competition offences (abuse of dominance).

The one thing on their side is the new requirment that no one exist at the venue that weekend other then them.  That is pissing off the venue as they have 10 all halls that will have to be empty as a result.
