(wonder if anyone ever tried to make a head to head pinball machine
Actually, yes! There have been a few. Gottlieb built a head-to-head model called Challenger in 1971... 110 made. Not very popular. But... according to IPDB, after the initial production run, a Canadian operator had 100 made for the Canadian market. The other is a Williams Joust pinball machine. Only 402 made. Playfield is a lot more elaborate than Challenger of course, and is electronic with the SYstem 7 boards in it. This info is all on IPDB... I also know that Alvin G. and Co. made 3 of them... Soccer, Football, U.S.A.Football, and I believe Dinosaur Eggs, and a few little known companies, like Komputer Dynamics who made one called Invasion Startegy in 1975, and Viza who made War in 1978... Type in "head-to-head in the search engine in IPDB... is rather interesting. I guess they didn't become popular simply because of the larger floorspace needed to run these. Challenger looks like practically the length of 2 pinballs back to back. Professor Sparky |
