Thinking of building a cockpit for my xbox. Got a lot of cool games I could setup in it like driving games, shooting games (house of the dead 3), and a really cool Mech game I have Called Steel Battalion.

To play Steel Battalion you have to have the custom controller for it (which comes in the kit when you buy it). Its really cool, has 40+ WORKING buttons, two controllers, a sifter and peddles. Look at the picture of the kit below, it is really cool.

The unit cost $299US new when it came out and can sell for $500US+ on ebay today. I got mine used from a guy in Montreal who used it for display purposes in his electronics store.

What do you think, good idea? Bad idea?

And ALL the buttons are functional. Just to start your mech in the game you have to go through a startup sequence in which you have to push 8 buttons.

Pretty damn fun....

...considering the price of lumber, and the undertaking needed to build a cab, ever thought of getting another cab like your Hydra and building around that?

...You could build a turret and make a cannon out of ABS pipe and put it on top of the machine... if well done, would look cool!

Empty cockpit machines are hard to find. I was even considering converting my Hydra machine but the control panel is too big to fit in it.

Plan on making the cockpit look really cool. Going to have a gull-door which opens to get into it. Then I was going to put a machine gun on the top which moves from side to side when playing the game

Want to make it look as if you are climbing into a pod which is going to be then lowered into a mech.

I found a site on the net which sells plans to make a cockpit machine.

They sell the plans for $29.99US

The only problem I find is that the cabinet looks pretty big. It would probably end up staying in my garage unless I made it so that it could be broken up into two pieces if I needed to move it.
