Hi,

I have been away and finally have had a little time to wotrk on my BK.

The system resets during game play when one or both magna saves are pushed.

What do I need to test/do to diagnose and fix this issue?

Thank you.

Drew
PS for those that helped before all switches are working.

I have determined that activating a switch during gameplay and in switch test mode activates all switches in that row.

I also have taken 2J2 and 2J3 off and tested with a jumper in swtich test mode and everything checks out fine.

Can someone confirm my belief that I have a short or bad diode. I am not sure though.

Thank you.

Drew

Just to clarify - with 2J2 and 2J3 disconnected, did you test every combination of row & column with a jumper?

Then when you test with playfield connected, is the problem with just one row or all of them?

So if you're activating every switch in the row when you push either magnasave button you're also triggering the plumb bob tilt and the roll tilt, which is probably why the game is resetting. Is it resetting regardless of whether the magnet actually is energized or not?

To clarify

With 2J2 and 2J3 disconnected, I tested every combination of row & column with a jumper, all operated the correct switch and only the correct switch.

Then when you test with playfield connected the problem is with all rows. However not every switch activates the row, only some. In all cases there is a switch that will activate the row.

The resetting is due to the tilt and not a true reset. In other words the game is functioning correctly, with the exception of the switch rows activating.

In test mode the magna saves still result in all the row activated, as well as during game play.

Any ideas?

Drew

That is a strange one. I would record the results of every switch in test mode, try to see if there is a pattern to which ones are working correctly, and which ones are activating multiple switches (verifying whether it's always a full row). It's hard to imagine that a single short or bad diode could be responsible for so much chaos.

What is the history of this machine? When was it last in a working state and what's changed since then?

This is strange, but I've previously seen something similar. We had a switch matrix on an industrial paper press that was doing the same thing because it was grounding out along the path of least resistance. The machine saw it as the switches being tripped.

Have you checked your ground?

Here is what I do, print off a copy of the switch matrix, test each switch one at a time and highlight the ones that cause issues. It will make tracking down your problem a lot easier.

I will do the suggested steps from tinyrodent, sentinelking and Grauwolf later this week; I am on the road for work. Once I find out more I will put up the info I find out.

FYI the playfield fell from a completely upright position onto the lockdown bar. A very big crash. As such there was damage to a coil that I identified and fixed right away, as well as three pinched wires which I fixed. I also found a problem on the board with the column chips that have also been replaced. I am not sure what else may be wrong but I will check the gound wiring as I have not checked this.

I did just put LED's in the machine but I can not see this step having anything to do with the issues I am having. Let me know if this may be related.

THx for all the help so far.

Drew
