More gameroom "upgrades" stuff. Anyway, I want to put up on the wall some of the marquees I picked up a while back. I've noticed a few members have these hanging on the wall. Question #1: how do you hang them? 2 way tape? glue? I also have a pinball playfield and backglass I'm going to be putting up. The backglass, I figure I can use the brackets used to install bathroom mirrors (thanks for the tip TR) but what about the playfield? Question #2: Do you just install a couple of L screws (whatever they're called) and then just hook up the playfield on the L screws via the various playfield holes? I'll never finish before Xmas... edit: layout stuff, message is easier to read this way |

Neither one. Maybe someone can help me here... in french it's called "gommete". Schools and daycares use it to hang drawings and posters on walls. I found that they do a great job with marquees too. |

Les Anglais call it 'Blue-Tack' or 'Sticky-Tack.' Go to a Staples or Business Depot or whatever and ask for that. |

blue gum sounds about right. Mention that at a Michael's or a Staples and they'll know what it is. |

Shoot, you can't tell around here when someone's joking or not. I thought the bluegum was a joke, sorry ALJO. Ok, I'll check into that, thanks very much.
Ok, so what about the playfield? |

Just going on what the kids call it in my school. But if everyone really insists, we'll all call it blue gum from now on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-tack |

Just wanted to say "thanks" for all the help, that blue gum stuff works fantastic! I used mirror clips on the playfield. They weren't wide enough to fit around the playfield but I was able to cut a slit into the base and top and fitted them in the groove. The bonus is you hardly see the clips.
The gameroom (AKA Loaf's Man Cave eheh) is starting to take shape. Sorry for the junk in the way, still getting ready for Xmas. Once everything is done I'll post a few pics in the gameroom thread. Just don't expect a lot of pins/cabs, I've got 1 each!

Very nice Rob. Looks good. Now to fill that room up with pins & vids....
Is that blue gum holding up playfields? Not too sure if I'd trust it long term, but then I worry about too much... |

Thanks. Nah, I used mirror clips on the playfield, cut a groove along the top and bottom as they weren't wide enough (metal clips). It's solid, I can't even move the sucker a little bit! The blue gum is just used for the marquees. There is one spot where I could put another pin, and if I were to move the exercise machine, one other one there. But this thing called "budget" gets in the way. In saying that, I think there's an excellent chance sometime in 2009 I'll be able to add a cheap working EM, even if the quality leads to be desired as long as it's in a playable shape (and has to have flippers... and out/in lanes... and just a couple of hundred bucks... and... ). |

Nice job. Did use blue gum for the backglasses too? If so, I would worry about that, blue gum can very slowly stick off if the object is too heavy. |

Nope mirror clips on the backglasses too, you can see them in the pics. I understand that blue gum is weight limited, no worries. Oops! I forgot to thank Tinyrodent, tartagliag, Sparky and workingpins for all the parts you see on the wall. Thanks again! edit: thanks machine.slave |

That blue gum you are using is at best a temporary adhesive, I wouldn't trust it over the long term as they will eventually fall down as you've already experienced. I have hung a backglass with mirror clips in the past with no problems, although I modified the mirror clips to have a tighter fit (cut and glued some clear plastic pieces to the clip to hold the glass snugger,so to speak). I suppose you could do this with the marquees as well. I am going to hang a bunch of marquees in my gameroom as well, but the blue glue is out of the question for me since they will be mounted on the main support beam next to the ceiling and since the floor is thin ceramic tile over a cement floor....well I'm sure you get the picture. Home Depot or Revy probably has some kind of clip that will allow you to mount them permantly without risking future damage to the marquee. flashman |

Yeah, reviving the thread to say "they're all comin' down". That's 4 now, so I'll have to look at a more permanent solution. Blue gum is cool, but unless there's a certain technique to using it, doesn't do the job. |

Mix it up with Crazy glue. Seriously, What I do is I press real hard on the blue gum, even if it's only a poster, makes a big difference on the grip. Also there are different qualities of blue gum, maybe you've got a lesser quality. |

I've pressed the heck out of it so I don't think that's an issue. Lesser quality: That's always possible. Which one do you use? |

Get a frame and hang them. I mentioned you can buy them at Walmart for about $20. Fantastic looking and work great. I'll take a pic later.

I honestly don't remember. I would think that if you compare prices...you can figure out which one is best. |

Duane, I have 14 marquees hanging and not in the same area, I can't frame them all and I don't want to frame them all under one spot. Good idea just not practical for my situation. I might try the better blue gum (it's cheap, worth a shot) but if not, I was thinking of the two way tape/velcro option. These marquees are pretty light, think that might work? |

Why not just get a double sided molding tape?
If your not worried about the Marquee or the wall, that should work fine. Getting it off the marquee or the wall without damage will be next to impossible but the same thing can be said about velcro as well, only diffrence is your'll be able to remove it if you just want to move it around. But getting the velcor off is still going to ruin the wall and the marquee. |

Whoops. Thought we were talking about your movie posters. For the marquees, I'd suggest tape and velcro. That should do the trick. Duane |

I often remove blue gum at work, that never happened to me. What kind of wall do you have? Is it one of those african mud walls? |
