I'll never understand the logic of people who bid this early into the auction??!!  What's the logic, 9 times outta 10 it's never gonna stay top bid so why even bother.  Unless your not going to be around for the end of the auction there's no reason to bid before the last 1 min.

Bidding tactics is a good topic.  Sometimes, if you're in early and bid high enough or successively enough, another rival bidder will give up and go away figuring that it will be driven too high.  That being said there are some a-holes that know that a serious bidder is involved and will bid just to watch the price go up, knowing full well they won't et stuck with it, or can re-neg.

I've also sat there and waited for the last minute, only to find, particularly on items with no res, no or low current bids, that it gets withdrawn from auction before my last bid gets in.

Although it may end up costing you more than otherwise, some think the best tactic still is to bid as much as you're willing to comfortably and walk away.  First in bids always beat snipers, IF they are higher.

True but with Sniping you allways have the channce to add that extra $5 - $10 you need to put yourself over.

Usually when I snipe I'll have about 3 - 4 ebay windows open with diffrent bids on each, with my personal Max value.  So if an item is at $20 and I'm willing to pay$100 for it, I'll have windows open with $100, $110, $120, $150, because I'd like to pay$100 but if I can get it for $110, $120, or $150 that's ok to.

I don't know I just never understood the logic.

Even then why wouldn't you then just us a snipe engine like auctionsniper and just put in the one $150 bid and go to bed, or just bid up to $150 directly on eBay.  Wouldn't you have just the same chance in the end? If someone snipes it for $160, you still lose (except that using a snipe engine, if someone else's snipe is the same as yours and there's a minute difference in timing you could lose by default.)

I always bid in the last 10 seconds and I put the maximum I want to spend. If I win, Great!! Otherwise, I move on, not worth getting upset about losing the auction.

Same for me, i snipe my max at the end and pray. Like this i dont pay too much for someting, you know some time the brain strike for 60 sec who make you pay 40% more then what you had plan.   , i could wait maybe one week and have a better deal.

Cause for me it's more like a split second decision, I may not want to pay $150 so if I can get it for $120 or $110 I'll start with those, $150 is a last resort and I may not hit the bid button.

Just my way of doing things

Isn't it immaterial when you bid?

If your willing to spend $100 on something then whether you put the bid on in the first second or the last second you'll win if your $100 is the highest bid otherwise you don't. Sniping adds a bit to the excitment but it doesn't effect the outcome of the auction, the person with highest bid wins. In fact (mentioned in the previous post) if you put your $100 on first and someone matches it then you'd win.

Just my opinion.

Adam:

All you are going to pay is whatever the max bid is, plus the bid increment. Ex. if the high bid is $116 and you bid $150 as your max bid, all you will pay is $116 plus $5 (i believe $5 is the bid increment over $100, the bid increment varies as the $ value increases) so you would get it for $121, even if you bid $150. You do not automatically pay $150, just because that is your max bid.

That is why I bid my max and hope to win. If I get it for less that is a bonus.
