I have some GI problems for which I fixed them be re-seating the J121 connector. I guess by the Marvin guide I should repin the connector (female side).
If I'm do J121, which other connectors should I do, while the "pants are down" so to speak.
No other connectors look visually bad if that helps.
Thanks. |

I guess I'm even more lazy... I say if it ain't broke don't fix it. BTW, what type of game are we discussing ? Different systems have different issues. A quick read of Marvin's repair site will usually point the way most travelled. http://www.marvin3m.com/fix.htmAdam |

Yeah, if the other connectors looks / work fine leave them alone. Replace any that have burn marks on them. J120 and J21 are usually the ones to look at. (although not limited to just these two)

What game is this, Doug, TZ?
I had to do both the male and female ends on my WCS, the female IDC connector was brown toasted to the point of crumbling and the male pins had actually come loose on the back of the board from heat. You have to resolder the pins on the back of the board and jumper the pins if the traces have become broken somehow. That's usually due to a half a** repair from a previous person....
It's all in Clay's repair guide. I'm still a fan of the "if it's not broke don't fix-it" camp. |

I agree, if it ain't broke don't fix it. GI tends to have some circuits that run "hotter" than others. Deal with the problematic ones and leave the rest. |

Thanks guys. The game is the Bram Stoker's Dracula (BSD). Bretty (tinyrodent) did a great job fixing it up. To get it in & out of his place we had to take the head one & off. So the J121 may not have been seated quite right I know Clay is more on the "fix it 'cause its gonna break" page, but I'm a bit more lazy. -
It works, now - I guess if it fails again I'll do the hot/common connectors.
Thanks for the input.
Ballyboy - we put your LED TZ clock board in - looks great - thanks. Now I just need that blue housing... |

Several of the connector housings had wires coming loose when BSD arrived here. The IDC blades just don't hold the wires very well. I reseated the loose ones using a small flat screwdriver.
New housings with crimped pins would be a much better and more reliable long term solution. |
