Hey all!

A question has been going through my head for a while... you know... normal purchase doubt. I just purchased a Joust pinball, but I have been wondering what you guys think...

Between the following pinball machines, assuming all in fair-to-good condition, which one would you buy:

JOUST

SWORDS OF FURY

DEMOLITION MAN

STARGATE

Go ahead and answer the poll...

Just curious of what you guys think...

If only in fair-to-good condition I would choose DM.
However, if they were in excellent-to-collector condition I would choose SOF.

Damn it's so hard to choose.

They are not all te same value thou, keep that in mind.

I voted as if i had the money for any However i would be tempted by the SoF if less money was available...

Well, my intial train of thought was that the DM would be the easier of the two to restore if they were only in good condition so I would pick that one.

But if they were in collector condition I would choose the harder to find SOF and hope that another DM could be found later.

I never consider money when I'm day dreaming because that would just be counter productive

BTW

The only reason I didn't pick Joust is because it's best enjoyed as a two player game and I would never have any of my friends over to play cause they're not house trained.

Well, that and the fact that I'm really self absorbed... Heck, it would probably never even occur to me to invite them over in the first place!

Take the Joust. The others can be had later. It's totally unique and very low production. Plus I imagine that a lot of them got trashed since they kinda fell into the cocktail genre of games.

I personally am the competative type. Playing head to head is a unique pin challenge.

I doubt that a lot got trashed. For a pinball that only had a run of 402, I've seen plenty come up for sale (albeit at a high price) in the Ontario region.  On the other hand, something like Funhouse (run of 10,000+?), I haven't been able to find within Ontario/Quebec for that last couple of years???

There was a Joust pinball at a Starburst auction a few years back.  Went for somewhere around $700?  Not sure if it was a buyback. Seemed kind of cheap.

Sparky... as for the other choices?  Its all preference.  I have a Swords Of Fury that I am currently shopping.... a fun Sys11 game and a real late 80's machine, complete with that "unique" 80's music. Not for everyone.  Both DM and SG are supposed to be decent as well...but I havent played either enough to give an opinion.

Joust is unique and low production.
A Novelty game requiring two players head-to-head, offering
quite a difference compared to other pinball machines.
Plus it is a good investment, there seem to always be collectors looking for one.

I would be tempted next by a Stargate (my vote in this poll) followed by
Swords of Fury. Demo Man does not turn my crank.
As in other posts, personal tastes vary, and it is a good thing as we are not all
looking for the same games !

Cheers,
- Sylvain

Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron,
1986 Williams Grand Lizard, 1991 Williams Bride of Pinbot, and a few others.
Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for
one machine on my want list, non-working/unshopped welcome!

Well, first thing we have to agree on is money isn't a consideration. If that is the case, then I definately say get the Joust.

I had a Demoman. That game gets old fast. Very easy wizard mode. very limited modes and the left side of the game is wasted -- no points to shoot for. It does have very good multiball modes, but really it isn't a keeper.

Stargate doesn't do a thing for me. I found the game waaaayyyy tooo easy when I did get to play it.

So then it comes down to Joust vs. SoF. Now this is actually an intersting one. I like SoF. Awesome and unique layout. Cool upper playfield with drop targets. Surprising horseshoe shoot and very cool sounds. All in all a classic Sys. 11 and, unfortunately, you don't see them for sale very often BUT....you really don't see Jousts very often and when they do come up they are usually quite pricey. I like the game -- even playing solo, so I would definately recommend it.

Joust is low production numbers and very collectible. If you decide you don't want it down the line, I'm sure you can sell it relatively quickly. Get the Joust!

BTW, if your budget allows it, get the SoF as well
