Saving Cooke's thread for what it's intended, let's discuss the Ebay/PayPal issue here.

What part do you not like? That we are in agreement?

Paypal obviously can charge a fee, but IMHO it is up to the seller to decide whether he wants to offer their service as part of the sale inclusive or at the expense of the purchaser. If the purchaser doesn't want to pay it he is not obligated to and can find some other suitable means.

No, I mistook what you were saying that Ebay should lobby for the change in a possible law that limits us to charge extra.  I don't agree with big business lobbying.

On your second point, is it possible to not accept payment via Paypal?

In the fine print of the Paypal policy which everyone agrees to when they sign up, it states that a seller cannot charge a premium (be it 3% or whatever) to accept Paypal. That is why Ebay cancels auction, like Corey's and I have received the same treatment. It was clearly explained in the email I got from them and I assume Corey got the same.

Any seller has the option to not accept Paypal in their auction, but it has become so convinient that it probably turns a lot of buyer away from your auction if you do not accept Paypal. I see it to be no different that walking in a store and it states "Cash Only", even though the prices may be great, the inconvinience to go get cash, will cause many buyer to not return.

If you are selling something for Local Pickup only it makes sense to not accept Paypal, but if there is shipping involved, Paypal seems to have become the standard. I also have seen many sellers of Pinball machines and other expensive items accept only $500 by Paypal as a deposit and the rest by money order or wire transfer.

Their double dipping pisses me off, so I rarely sell anything on Ebay anymore. I am sure others feel the same. It is their loss in the end. I do not like their service (mainly their fees) so I go elsewhere.

My two cents...

It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!
