merci

THIRD Magnet ?
For those who never heard about it, Twilight Zone was designed with three magnets
in the orbits instead of the two that are usually found there.
During preproduction Twilight Zone was commercial tested as well and WMS
decided that the third magnet was not actually needed and it was removed from
the game to reduce production costs.

Where was this third magnet located ?
A glance at the right orbit learns that two
Spiral Graphics are present but only the
lower has a magnetpole sticking through
Well, this is the place to add it, into the
upper Spiral texture.

If the third magnet was useless, and therefore removed, why add it?

Cause it's not usless.

I like it, it adds a little something extra, not a huge something but something none the less.

The 3rd magent only serves two puropses.  During Multiball and during the sprial mode.

During multiball or at a multiball restart the machine will launch 3 balls to be held on all 3 magnets.  So at the start you will have all 3 balls held on the playfield at once, it's actually pretty cool effect to see.

During the sprial mode, the ball stops on all 3 magents, hense 3 spirals, and then "BREAKTHROUGH" as the ball is no longer stopping so you are breaking through the spirals.

Again I like, but there is allot of risk involved.  Am I happy I did the mod, yes, would I have been happy I did the mod if I had destroyed my playfield in the process No

So mod at your own risk

It was'nt useless... it was removed because for economical reasons.

It even adds a new multiball.

It does give the game more value.

It adds a new effect, but it doesn't add a new multiball    You can still achive that same multiball even if you don't have the 3rd magnet

You had me scratching my head, I was like "A new multiball, I would have seen thaty by now, what gives"

Ed "Rocket Scientist" Cheung has his guide on the 3rd magnet installation - I trust his results of what size holes, etc to use if interested:

Pinbits has a 3rd magnet kit, I'd go with that again personally, it really makes it almost idiot proof.

I wouldn't say it eliminates the hassle, it just makes it easier.

As an example, instead of having to measure where the hole should be going, it gives you a guide so there is no guess work.  For the hole in the playfield as well as the hole on the lane guides.

But you still have to drill your playfield which is the biggest risk.

This Mod is not for the faint of heart that is for sure.

By hassle... I meant making the electronics and extra boards (very complicated for me).

Drilling a playfield does'nt worry me too much...especially with the instructions we've got here http://www.shootmagain.nl/games/dmdgames/tz/3rdmag/index_e.htm

Yea that hassle is gone, you don't need to build an extra board, it has all that taken care of for you in the hit.  Really good instructions on how to get it all done as well.
