ok you have some games they were good you fixed em up to be perfect as possible now you just sold off most of the games. now what? you look at what is available some at a high price & some at a great price. when you start thinking about them, they dont seem to build the excitment and scratch the itch. so what do you do? this is the postition I am in right now, I want to move forward but options are limited. so do I do something else and forget about this hobby for a while or do i continue to memorize everything that is for sale on a daily basis and wait for something to pop up that gives the tingle. I think another keeper would be nice but I have no idea what it would be. arrg I feel like Charlie Brown when he goes to kick the football and lucy rips it away.
Mabye change your focus. I've never been on the collector side of things, I've allways been a player. I hate shopping machines, I put it off as long as possible, and I also don't have the paitence to look for that diamond in the ruff, if I want a machine, when I have the cash aviliable, I find one and I find it as quickly as possible.
I personally really enjoy the competition side of pinball, I went to PAPA last year and had a BLAST, I already pre-registered for this years PAPA, I also really enjoy competing in the tournaments put on by Mike Hanley at the church of the silver ball and competing in TOPL. That's my main focus and it keeps me interestead, playing to get better and becoming a better player.
I'm not quite in that situation, but I am faced with some decisions as to where I want to go with my collection.
I started off as a Vids guys (..and Robotron will ALWAYS be my Holy Grail ), but now that I've crossed-over into pins, I'm not sure what to do with the Vids.
There's no doubt the pins get 95% of all the action in my games room, and some of my vids haven't been played in months.
I'd like to get more pins, in fact my wife has even OK'd me getting a LOTR, but I'd need to make some space since I can only keep games in the games room. (...and my wife keeps the screws pretty tight on that... )
The problem is that my Vids are "true" classics (to me anyways...), and I KNOW I would be sad to part with them. (..I still sort of miss the Robotron cocktail that sits in Sparky's basement, eventhough I know it's in a much better place than I could ever provide... )
I have a Dedicated Pac, Defender, Robotron, Pole Position II, Centipede and Joust cocktail. These are my kids... I can't get rid of them...

I've been struggling to get to your position for a while, JD. I started out in the hobby just wanting to have "one" vid. And then they started breeding in my basement and garage. Then a few months ago, I decided that I needed to focus, fix up and sell off the fluff and get a couple of vids and a couple of pins that I can truly baby. Ever since, I've been trying to fix and get rid of the projects and get myself to the point where I have money in the bank and space in the gamesroom to jump on the good deal when it comes along. I'm almost there.
I guess my point is, there's nothing wrong with waiting. It's good to be in your position. When the item comes along that you've been looking for, you'll have the means to get it. I think if you get what you're looking for after looking for a while, it makes it all that much more satisfying.

I am in that position myself Before the baby arrived. I had sold my Robocop a crap load of boards and a few arcade cabs.Gave a few cabs aways also and some boards. I Also selling what boards I have left. But I really miss not having a pin not a little but allot. With the baby around I figured would not be so bad I would be very busy but not always the case But that will happen later I guess but would be fun to get a few pin projects in the basement and rebuild just for the hell of it. The wife even ok me to use tax return But that can always change. We will see what happends saturday
Life is like Pinball!! You never know where you will bounce or where your going but sometimes you have that one amazing shot But on the other hand you have those darn gutter ball where you just get frustrated.
I am buying Pins!! Feel free to send me your For sale lists!!
Just keep buying pins! You will find something that scratches the itch, if not, you shop them, mark them up and sell them to finance the next attempt. But look for games with an upside, that way they are sellable!

It`s called human nature... We all tend to get bored of something we are over-exposed to over time. A passionate hobby will eventually fizzle once the 'magic' surrounding the initial "tingle" is gone. Once you have collected a selection of games that are considered among the better ones, the passion of obtaining other games is somewhat diminished. Let's face it, we're all in this to satisfy our inner child... Usually a short break from any hobby is enough to rekindle passions.
PS: JD, in case the TZ no longer gives you tingles, let me know. You can sell to someone that still has the tingles for now... PSS: All this talk of Porsches, my brother in law is selling his absolutely mint 944 Turbo - showroom condition. PM me if interested...

Well, you need a High Flow game like AFM, or Medieval, Both pretty pricey, but great fun. Or AF, AF and TZ go great together, Again, Pricey, but cool game! Cheaper but pretty fun are T2, Judge Dredd (kind of dark though), HS2, but you sold that. Creature is a great game, but kind of in the Love it or Hate it kind of mode, I love it. There are far to many great games out there, somehow you need to find more room!!

Have you checked w/ pinball wizard (aka Mike)? At the MAACA meeting held at his place, he had quite a few games including a Taxi. The price was right, but the playfield was rough -- had stress marks. Still, for the price you cann't go wrong. I don't know if he still has it or not, but may be worth checking. Of course, you could of bought Phil's RG , but I don't think you liked the look of that one.
There are a ton of great games out there, only trouble is finding them. I read that you won't be able to go to Allentown. You could see if one of the Montreal MAACA folks would be willing to bring a game back for you (plus gas, whatever). You could also place WTB ad on r.g.p. and see if a game comes up that you could drive and get. Of course, both these ideas assume you know the game you want
I know you like family oriented games. Have you thought about Rocky and Bullwinkle. It's quite fun and very family friendly, plus it is still somewhat reasonable. I think you are in the hate camp for White Water. Fun game, but I recall you don't like it. What about Fish Tales? Another fun game that is still affordable. Whirlwind is one of my favs, definately a fun Sys. 11. Anyhow, I could go on and on...
yup got that info forgot to mention had a fishtales for a little while didnt like it all that much is why i didnt remember it. availabilty is the key and i do like to see the games is a big problem. was looking for a monopoly but none around. I can wait no rush I know some may go to the show and bring stuff back so dunno what will be around the corner. just sending out the notice and see what pops into view.
To quote the great Shao Kahn: " YOU WEAK PATHETIC FOOL!!! "
A little reminder for others about JD's pin requirements:
- must be near mint - must cost a cheap as possible (like nearly stolen) - must be kid-friendly and be approved by the missus.
Therefore, an utterly impossible pin to find!!!
Sorry buddy...I love ya, but it's true!!!
Actually Sparky, this criteria (well the first 2 for sure) is the same for 87% of MAACA members...
...and by itself, criteria #2 is used by 99.99995% of MAACA members
My $0.02
Current 'working' lineup: ( 2 ) Flipper Football, The Shadow
Gone but not forgotten: ( 22 ) City Slicker, Dirty Harry, CFTBL, Big Shot, Big Guns, Black Rose, Judge Dredd, Indianapolis 500, Big Game, BS: Dracula x 2, Beat the Clock, Fire!, F-14 Tomcat, Getaway, Breakshot, Cheetah, Meteor, El Dorado, Nitro Ground Shaker, Chexx Hockey, Slugfest
O.K, speaking as some one who has perchased a pin from JD... I can tell you all that it's in our best interests to help him find a game...
Think about it; He only buys excellent examples... He buy them cheap... They are titles that can be put into any house... And he seldom keeps them for longer than 6 months!
Been looking at a pin that you can't afford? No problem! Get JD to buy it, save your money and scoop it from him later.
Dang, by the time you have the money it will probably be fully shopped and tweaked too.
Come on people, what are you waiting for?
