Has anyone tried getting a shipment sent to a PO box in the US near the border? Such as a UPS Store in Ogdensburg, NY?

Quoted from McMean
In November I made a $200 order, and shipping was about 21 US.  I thought maybe they'd revised their shipping/gouging payments to reflect actual cost.  Then a few weeks ago I went to make a smaller order, in the neighbourhood of $40 and not very heavy, and the shipping was $35!  Needless to say, I found the parts elsewhere.  Seems to have no rhyme or reason to their shipping quotes.

I thought this as well....

It has to do with the way the website automatically totals your order.
This is what Amanda Howe told me, she used to handle my shipping via- USPS mail, back when I used to order regularly from them. This is why I recommend waiting until you have a large order, then you don't feel so bad when they charge you $35 or $40 shipping. It makes it seem more worth it somehow....

I definately order somewhere else when possible now. I wished I had saved the e-mails. The attitude was un-real. It was like. this is how it works, too bad take your business somewhere else if you don't like it. It also had something to do with the fact they sent this huge box ( 2x the size required ) and stuffed it half full of paper. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying fair shipping costs ( which had not been a problem with them up until then ), but when the package arrives with postage stamped WAY less than what you paid for, you gotta' say something....

I have a bad taste in my mouth from this for the last year or so. Can you tell I'm still bitter? Ha, ha.

Maybe someone should point her to this thread. I don't see too many people jumping in in their defence (oh let me Americanize that for their benefit "defense") on this issue. We all have pretty well had it with their shipping policy to the point of looking to move onto other suppliers. Maybe we are only 10% of their market. In a lot of businesses 10% can make or break you. Guess the message they are sending is U.S. economy is so FAT that they don't need us.....right.

Sadly I would order more frequently if they resolved this. Otherwise they are a good distributor.

Gee I wonder why Ed from Great Plains Electronics doesn't ever have these issues? It must be his large staff that are able to work it out.

If a little guy can do it there is no excuse for the bigger ones to still have this problem.

I've also had the "pleasure" of being screwed over on small package shipping by them.  They're usually my last choice for buying parts because of their shipping costs to Canada.

Count me in as another who will only order by Marco as a last resort.  Their prices aren't good to start with and coupled with the excessive shipping, I look elsewhere first.

I have only ordered from Marco when I was able to pickup from Allentown.  I had mentioned to Nancy how the shipping rates were alienating Canadian customers (this is 2+ years ago).  She seemed to understand and mentioned that they were having difficulties shipping with any other carrier other than UPS and were looking into DHL at the time.  I  think at one point they introduced flat rate shipping; but this must have failed as I no longer see it on their site.

Shipping in general has gone up for everyone but typically it's cheaper to go USA-> Canada.  That said I will still never have something shipped from them as you get %%%%.   Order a few caps and screws and you will see what I mean.

Last year they decided not to allow pickup for Canadian customers at Allentown (A mistake I was told afterwards).  Steve got all my business that year and the order was around 1K.  I won't mention other members in case they mind being singled out, but they too had large A-Town orders that went to other vendors because of that Mistake.  It's a shame really because they do a great job on their web site and I would like to support them but I refuse to pay that much for shipping for small items, and I'm not interested in seeing what larger items would cost.

DHL is out of business that is why they probably don't offer it anymore.  I live 60 miles north of Allentown and would gladly accept orders to my house.  For either pickup on the way to or I can take them with me to the convention in MAY  I asked Steph if it would seem creepy to invite all MAACA nut for a pitstop and he said it would not.  I know you don't know me but I am just a fellow pinhead and am a man of my word.  Anything I can do to help out my buds in Canada.

Its weird............because I order from there all the  time and the shipping is never over $30.00, 3 or 4 of us usually go in together on the order which helps share the cost

One order that I  ordered was for 3 ramps for Who Dunnit, one being the main ramp, which is quite large and the shipping for that order was only $28.92 and they shpped it USPS

Yes - works fine - but your still looking at $20 gas, $5/package at the store, bridge tools ($10 I think)... ...its great for big items, but for small orders its not worth it.
