Agreed tough call.

Very different games.

Demoman is all flow and speed, pretty shallow but still very fun to play.

Tommy is a clunker but very good theme integration, lots of fun modes and the blinder is a really cool toy.

for me I'd buy the Tommy just because I've already owned a DM.

Or buy both and be done with it, it's only money

Not a big Tommy fan. The game itself is fun, just not crazy about the music. I'd prefer The Who singing instead of the musical score, but that's a personal preference. For that reason along, I could never own Tommy.

That said, I think Tommy is a better game and if you can get over the music --- I cann't -- it's actually quite good. When I had the game, I enjoyed playing it. After awhile though, the music and quotes started to annoy me.

You milage may vary.

Tommy hands down...every DM I had always had issues and seemed to be prone to breaking down in a million different ways. I only ever had one Tommy but I really enjoyed it! Investment value IMO definitely favors Tommy too.

Rebuilding...currently Scared Stiff, Guns N'Roses, Bally Harley Davidson, Fish tales, Slugfest, JVL Conquest standup, and a Wurlitzer Juke.

If only Tommy had been done like GnR with original artists tracks. It would be a no brainer, despite not being the best playfield layout.

WPC the better choice. Not just any, but this one is decent.

I'd buy the Tommy personally. It's VERY high on my want list. Great multiball, decent modes, blinders. I like the cab artwork as well.

As someone that currently owns both, I prefer TOMMY.  That's not to say I don't
think DemoMan is a good game.  DemoMan is very fast, except for when the ball
goes into the claw, but it doesn't have a lot of depth and the rules really are
unbalanced toward the multiball.  TOMMY has plenty of modes and like previously
said the blinders are a really neat toy.

I think if you like the sounds of TOMMY go for it, if you think they will drive you crazy
go for DemoMan.  As far as reliability goes after getting them both working 100%, I've
had no real problem with either machine, except the mirror on TOMMY does seem to
require adjusting after several games.

It seams that there is always a DM for sale, but TOMMY's although not rare, are harder to find (compared to DM).  I see people buying and selling their DM all the time, while I do not see too many people flipping TOMMY's.

I personally love mine.  It's in my top 10 pins of all time.  As for DM, I had a chance to buy one a few times, but after playing it and watching all the videos on you-tube, and playing the visual pinball version, I chose TOMMY hands down!

Go with TOMMY, better resale value, easier to sell, and alot more fun to play (IMO)

Good luck.

PS: if you were closer I'd invite you over to try mine out before you buy.

According to me the Tommy has the best global note but are two pinball different then it is a tasteful question. As for the long-term value, I believe that the Tommy will keep a better value compared in DM. Thus, if you think of exchanging or of selling in the future the Tommy once again better choice.

I played Tommy for the first time a few weeks ago.  zzzz.  Never saw the movie.  Not a big The Who fan so the machine has zero appeal for me.  The sounds and those british accents would drive me nuts.

Buy something other than Tommy or DM.  If you're a fan of The Who, get their tunes.  No point wasting big money on a crappy pinball just cuz DE slapped some graphic on some wood and passed it off as a pinball machine.

If you are buying for investment purposes, Tommy will be worth a few hundred more next year probably. If you are buying to play and have fun, DM is a better playing game.

Tommy uses soundtracks from the play, not the actual Who tracks, which killed the appeal for me. Play quality is so-so.

However rock themed games are always more collectable in the long run.

Tommy average value on Ebay $1659-1891
DM "         "        "         "       ~$1154 US

Highly variable depending on condition. Tommy will increase in value.

Agreed with Mr Hyde, get both.

If I had the space to put more pins in my basement, I'd definitely own a DM.  It's a fast paced game, that has the right number of playfield gadgets for me.  I absolutely love the handle mounted buttons.  It makes it a very physical game experience for me.

I plan to own one someday.

Tommy has no appeal for me.  I agree that the synthesized soundtrack gets on the nerves after awhile.  It would have been far better with a real vocal soundtrack.  Decent gameplay, but like others, I can't get past the music.
