Oddly enough, no-one offered me a sponsership deal to fly over and compete. Must be either because I am not a well known enough name or because I pretty much suck compared to these guys.

Errrr, what website are you reading?  He made the top 32 which means he advances to the next round, Even Todd made it in as well.

I was looking not that long ago - at the end of round one he was about 46th on the list with only 9 points.  
At that time it read Below are the current standings after Session #1. The top 32 players advanced to the head-to-head bracket...
Sounded to me like he was done.

Much better news to see him and Todd still in contention

Just had a look & after session 3 Todd is out, but only 2 points short.

Eden is still in & doing very good, tied for 15th.

Ah Glen, it's only funny if it's true, I've been invited both years that IFPA has held the tourney, Vegas was too short notice and this year I would have gone but couldn't get the time off work, that was the only factor in my not attending this year.

But I'm curious, how many invitations have YOU gotten?  What's that, none, well I'm sure you'll stop sucking one day.

They take Top 2 from each Country and and then fill up the rest of the 64 spots as they gown down the world list.  

First year, Eden took one of the Canada spots, then Kyle declined, so John got the offer, he declined, so the offer went to me and I declined and it continued on down the list.  

This year I was much higher in the ranks and because it was in England, even more people weren't going, if you can get in and around 100 most likely you will get an invite as they have 64 spots to fill so even if you don't make it in from the country perspective, chances are at least 36 people will pass on coming.  But my group is small, there are only 4 of us and we need 2 people in the office at all times, my one co-worker got married on Sunday so he is off the next 2 weeks, and my other co-worker sister is getting married which is a big deal for his family so he is off as well, which means I'm stuck here rather then playing pinball

Session 4 is done and the two Canadians, who could go, are still in it.  Eden tied at 13th and Todd is back in it in 28th.

That reminds me - I still haven't set the PVR to catch the news at 5:30

Nope, the main reason being you aren't an open league.

You have restrictions on who can attend specific events, be it your playoffs or the limitations on space you have at league nights.

In order to qualify for WPR points your league/playoffs have to be open so that anyone can join at any time and participate.  It's the same reason that B/C divisions at PAPA don't get points and also the reason that any type of B division tournament never gets any points.  

That seems rather arbitrary, anyone can come, they just have to RSVP first. Every building has a max occupancy, right?

Arbitrary, not really, the WPR only real rule is that the it has to be open, I get places have Max Occupancy but you guys have locations that cut off at like 10 people.  I know right now your group is small, but what if it grows?  What about player 11 when you end up at that location, that player is now hindered when you end up there.

The other side of the coin is your scoring system is out of whack, as I've mentioned previously it's unfair to penalize a player on points because they end up in a group of 3.  

Also your playoffs are closed to members only, so you can't participate in where the lions share of the points would be given out unless you are a member which prohibits anyone from outside of the Ottawa area from being able to participate.  

You league needs to be as accessible to the guy who lives out in Sweden as it is to the local players in Ottawa.  That is why they are called World Pinball Points.

Also in the past you have said you are a casual league, more a group of friends who play pinball.  WPR is a ranking system for competitive pinball not casual pinball, if you want to switch your focus then I'm sure you would be able to become eligible for WPR points.

Nope, there is not a single TOPL location limited by attendance.  We used to have one location that limited attendance to 12 but that was before WPR points and we don't go there anymore.

Also we also allow non league members to participate in the playoffs which is where the lion share of the points are given out.

The other items in OPL could be overlooked if the playoffs was open to everyone and anyone, but it's not.  

I could be wrong, but that is my interpretation of the rules IFPA has set in place.

AFAIK, we never limited to 'members'. I don't even know what a member is. There's no sign up sheet or fee. As for limited space, that seems outright silly to me. This means that small towns (or even cities like Montreal or Ottawa) without a Church of Silverball cannot participate. The things like the point system are totally negotiable, we just settled on it because it was easiest to start with for our first season. I'd be willing to change it if it meant we could get IFPA recognized. I suppose other people would be willing to go along with it too.

The main sticking point I think would be the playoffs, I know it was a requirment for TOPL in order to get WPR ranking points was that the playoffs was 100% open to anyone that wanted to participate, member or not.

I don't think that's a big deal. So when you guys do 'playoffs', what does that mean if you don't have a cutoff?

It basically means that if 100 people decide to show up we would have to accomodate all of them.  

We can't limit entry into the playoffs if we want to receive points for it

That's ridiculous, where could you go other than PBHoF or the Church to accommodate that many people?!

It's an example more then anything, the only single pinball Tournament that gets 100 people is the PAPA C division and that doesn't even get WPR points because it is a C division and the C division is not considered an Open division.

But if you try and limit the tournament you can't call it an open tournament because it's not.  Are you going to get 100 people at the OPL finals, no, but if you get 20 people you would need to accomodate all of them.

As an example, at your previous final I though about making the trip for the finals because I like playing in tournaments and figured if there was a cash prize of even $100 it would be fun to play anyway, but you limited it to OPL members only so I didn't even bother to plan to attend.

If you start getting WPR points for your tournaments, I'll be making the trip for sure.  

But you sitll havent't answered my other question, why do you even care?  You've said a number of times your not a competitive league, so why do you want points?
