Before spending any $ or any repairs or any boards, connectors should be checked first,
along with voltage measurements, to pinpoint the actual issue.

I do not believe in buying and using replacement boards, except in very rare cases.

It is easy to overspend on repro boards - but the actual issue might not be addressed
if connectors are bad, or if the problem originates from another board (the +5 volts for
instance is generated by the rectifier board, then fed to the solenoid driver +5V regulator
section via connectors and a fuse).

My two cents, for what they are worth...

Cheers,
- Sylvain.

I don't know if one is better than the other but the GPE one is working fine in my Catacomb BUT I think that GPE also throws in new fuses, connectors and contacts which is a nice bonus. Shipping is always very fair too.

Greatplain electronic is marked as back order on his website, but ask him by email, last week he told me that he have a batch 75% completed.

good luck!

4- If the power supply is OK, measure the 5VDC at TP1 on the solenoid driver. If it is of correct value, set your multimeter on the AC setting and check it again. This will check to see if your big capacitor on the solenoid driver is filtering any AC ripples in your 5VDC feed. A good reading would be way under 0.100V.  Anything close or over that would indicate that the capacitor has failed or dried up and is weak. This can freeze up an MPU easily.

Just to follow up, I sent this along to the guy.  The response was:

Ok, I followed Sparky's advice tested the  following readings:

DC 4.16v (under the 4.9 to 5.2 volt range that MPU manual has)
AC 8.6v This one not sure as manual says not to have more then 150mv AC.

If those measurements are accurate, then the C23 electrolytic filter cap
on the Solenoid Driver board appears bad (open).

Cheers,
- Sylvain.
