First of all can we buy a Hyperpin, or we can just build it? What's the big difference between an Ultrapin and a Hyperpin? If we can only build it...What are the parts you need to do it? How do upload all of the 150 games on it? How much does a project like this cost? I'd like to have one. Info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Claude.
Depending on how many parts you have laying around, you're probably looking at 2k-ish.
as much as i hate to reccomend other forums, Hyperpin/Hyperspin forums have lots of info on custom builds.
I saw your thread axe....looks like a cool project, but I'm not good enough in electronics to do this. I know I'll have to take an old cabinet and put an LCD screen in it, but after doing this, I would'nt know what the hell I've got to do.... What computer have I got to put in it? how do I program the computer? What kind of buttons (flipper) do I use? Where do I connect them on the computer? Etc........................
WTB more space!!!! anyone got some for sale? MAACA-Colonel

Lots and lots of examples and walkthroughs on the hyperspin forums (cabinet forum has a lot of examples in it) But it all depends on how nice of a performance you want. You could pay $6000 for an official ultrapin with a few tables, or you could spend less than half that, and build a nice one, that would play sooo many more tables.
A par ça, I agree 100%.

If I understand correctly, the Ultrapin's can't be upgraded to the many videopins we've started to see all over the place (those that have 150 tables), at least not without a lot of hassle. I might be getting confused with anotehr Vpin but from what I understand, the ultrapin's can only be upgraded via games that come with some kind of a dongle, and then we're talking about 12 more tables for a total of 24, or something like that. Most of these 150 tables pins are all custom made, either via using the body of an existing pin or via upcoming shell kits (I thought I read Mameroom is considering selling some, though there's nothing available yet). Just keep in mind, if you go this route, you should consider getting the screen first, to ensure it fits in.
At the Hyperspin boards, there's a fellow canadian that I think has offered to make people a vpin (I think the user name is Rawd I believe, go to HyperSpin's website and search for his posts to confirm - I'm at work and can't access the site to confirm). No idea where he lives but however you look at it, it's not cheap to put something like this together, pending the size of the screen and the "finishing" touches that make it look good. Absolutely no idea what his price is, or if you'd consider it fair. I know with any custom work not done by ourselves, it usually costs an arm and a leg...

I contacted the guy (Rawd). He can make me the cabinet with everything in it, including the computer but he says that he cannot load the tables and sell them, it's illegal. I could get him make me the Hyperpin, but I would need someone to help me load up the tables. Can someone do this for me? I'll pay anyone who's willing to help me on this. I know nothing about doing this... PM me. Thanks. Claude.

Hey Claude, I don't see why he couldn't build it for himself and decide he doesn't want it and sell it to you, no different than selling a MAME... is it?
Dave

I am sure there is a talented cabinet maker in our midst (I can think of at least one in particular) who might take on a mass order.
What you'd need is a plan that includes a well layed out plan for all the parts hardware, cabinet materials and software (not including ROMs) including the electronic plunger and other IO gear. I've traded emails with nanotechent's president recently, he seems like the kind who would be up for a group purchase, and electronics (LCD screens) and cabinet decals (aka vehicle wrap) are not difficult to source.
With an oranizer and say at least 6 committed purchasers, we could go ahead with a group project ala "Big Bang Bar" - so long as people are willing to pre-pay.
Budgetting and finding committed purchasers is the first order of business. How much would you be willing to spend on a quality Hyperspin/Future Pinball cabinet? $2,000, $3,000, $5,000?
Be careful with pre building cabinets, less you have problems getting the LCD to fit in afterwards. Many who've built them have stated "it's important to first know your LCD dimensions". It's becoming a lesser problem because many are now decasing the LCD (which if I ever get going on this, is what I will do) but just keep this in mind.

The whole point to the exercise woudl be to plan, plan, plan and preconfigure and produce detailed construction drafts with a known supply of monitors that work ahead of time. You wouldn't pre-build cabinets and sell tehm without either (including the monitor) or have directions and sources for an existing model that people could obtain, modify and mount properly - unless you were to over-engineer and then create bezels for differeing models.

Coincidentally, I JUST received my nanotech entertainment Pinball Wizard Mot-ion adapter and plunger kit. Comes with optical (or motion sensing) plunger, motion sensing control board, wiring harness (for flippers, plunger and other buttons), a sata cable for connecting the plunger and a USB cable for connecting to the computer, and instructions. I'll have to pre-test it soon as there is a 90 day return policy. But it looks well put together, and eliminates the need for monkeying with any other kind controller and motion sensing for sensing tilts (up / down, left / right).
What I don't get, looking at the tiny board is how it senses cabinet movement, however the instructions clearly indicate the orientation of the board to the cabinet floor, and the harness contain no hook-ups to tilt sensors. I thought maybe the tilt sensor is in the plunger, but nothing in the docs woudl indicate that.
