Good job on both; the playfield and the pictures!!

Update: Start again to work on this project after the moving process to new house is almost finish and tools find new place.
Changed the playfield transistors (5)
Checked PBDB transistors (6), reflow cracked solder, change caps.
Checked playfield diodes

Absolutely necessary tools:
Temperature controlled solder, oh my god this works very fine and very usefull for temperature sensitive component, make very nice solder and very good for small solder.

Voltage controlled solder, very good for rough jobs and very fast to use but be carefull, if you don't use it, it will come very hot, good when you have lot of solder to make or very good to remove big and sloppy solder. Range controlled from 15 watts to 60 watts

Sucker solder: Another very usefull tool, works very very nice to remove solder to replace electronics component !!!

Very impressive work!

Thanks, i start this project with a 350$CAD Black Hole, usually around 1500$US in working condition.
It was in storage in poor condition for 20 years.

Today i upgrade the power supply, the upgrade did not work at the first time but i keep working, learn few more things and now it work nice. I change the 2 LED, that's why they are very bright now, 3 caps, 2 resistors, 1 diode, the big center transistor, reflow solder from connecting power pins (solders are always cracked in this area) and make the ground mode (red wire). I will do the same for Haunted House later. It was working before the upgrade but now it will be more reliable.

I like to restore pins !!!

Update: I try again the power supply, it fail after about 10 min. I decided to change more components included in the power supply kit from Bid Daddy. Changed 2 more transistors and SCR106, it work again and i tested the power for few hours, now it look like it will work nice. I tested the cpu board even with little acid damage, it boot to attract mode. This is a great moment for me. This is the first time this game is powered for around 20 years !! One display is dimmer, it comes from HH and all display from HH are dimmer, maybe they made them like that. Lot of fuse are still missing and i cannot test it more, sound board make sounds when i put credit but no voice, after few minutes it fails, no more sounds. Test sound board from HH and it confirm the problem comes from BH sound board. BH sounds roms are bad. Ok that's it for now, now real fun arrive, electronics is more difficult to solve than just make playfield touch up !!

Thanks, i bought this BH very cheap and one of my goal is to learn more about restoring pins. I learned about touch up, clearcoating, and now i need to learn about diagnostics and repair electronics.

I also hope my work give motivation to other people to restore pins and and show some example about what an inexperience person can do. I learn almost everything from the marvin3m web site, this guy make a fantastic work.

Today i go into cpu self test. My cpu signal that the 5101 cmos chip was bad. Fortunately i already have this chip and i decided to change it and install a socket. Look very simple but for me it's all new. I like very much to learn this kind of things !!

Bad chip 5101 solder direct on cpu board

Solder removed

The other side

socket soldered

the other side

New chip installed

Tested and cpu board report no more bad chip. Before the board was booting but made strange things but now it work normally.

Also to do:
I have the number ''1'' from display 1 and 2 that doesn't work, suspect chip IC 7448, Z19 cpu board
One dead display, suspect chip UDN 6118a from that display
Verify and found one MPS U45 transistor dead on driver board

Other than that my sound board doesn't work, for the moment i have a bad rom, i will change it and check again but i suspect more bad chip on this board.

All this information comes from marvin3m web site, i really recommend everyone to read about pins they have, lot of tips and repair to learn.

One chip. You lucked out. If I posted pics for all TTL's I put into HB, Sparky would run out of space on the server.

Keep up the good work!

You should grab some flux remover after you solder to clean it up.
