I left Vancouver almost 28 years ago (man time DOES fly I haven't done that calculation in a long time!), and only just recently started flying back regularly with the family to visit my Aunt there.  Things have changed so much that I'd never want to go back...unless I could afford a seaside property in West Van up the coast a bit. Our tiny 30ft x 70ft property at Main & 21st is worth almost double what our 80ft x 100ft lot here in Waterdown is... and it's still JUST "this" side of "the other side of the tracks" (or what we referred then to as Ontario St.)

And you can get good Dungeoness Crab at the local Chinese markets here, so who needs to go back!

But I do miss the green all year round, lack of mainland snow (and the size of the flakes when it DOES snow), quality of the seafood (and quality of the restaurants in general), the mountains and the sea....

Vancouver drivers are still the worst in the country though.

I left Vancouver 3 years ago, lived in Kitsilano...renting. Our 1000 sq.ft. apartment was $400,000 now it is closer to $500,000 plus $350 pre month condo fees. Yes a beatiful place to be house poor and live life without travel and pinball! Not worth it!

Plus due to the high housing costs...there is a real stigmatism towards $ and I find Vancouver to be shallow and quite frankly the Toronto of 20 years ago. Now Vancouver is the "center of the universe" and people in Toronto seem way more down to earth.

I wish I was fluent in French so I could live in Montreal, however Ottawa is nice and I can get by in sales with only English.

Vanouver you need Madarin, Cantonese, plus a multitude of other languages,

Now what will happen after the Olympics when the provincial and municipal governments report massive deficits, interest rates start to rise and people realize that Vancouver was already on the map and the Olympics provided no new demand for housing...perhaps there is a bubble!

Current Lineup:
Black Knight, Riverboat Gambler, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Flintstones, Orbitor 1, Wipe Out, Breakshot, The Simpsons Pinball Party, Fish Tales, Eight Ball and a 60 in 1 Cocktail.

City council just turned down 4 skyscrapers of between 500 and 750 feet.

We have had our warmest Jan in recorded history and no snow on the north shore mountains so it will look funny for the Olympics.
Trees are blooming, my grass needs mowing, and I still don't own a winter coat.
That's why it's so expensive, and one reason why everyone east of Hope hates Vancouver.
