I'm looking for an oscilloscope. I think I can have a 60 MHz for a good price. Do I need a larger frequency (ex.100MHz) for troubleshooting pinball board? Don't need it right now, but just want to be sure to buy the right one. BTW, if you know someone that selling one, I might interested thanks

I've been trying for 2-3 years to get one at a decent price..
I think 60 Mhz should be good enough - most pins run at 8 - 12 mhz.

Hmm, in approx. 27 years of fixing machines during my spare time, I used a scope 2-3 times only... And mine is only a 20MHz dual trace.
Have you considered using a Logic Probe instead of a scope ? Much cheaper and easy to use... That, along with a DMM, and an ESR capacitor meter, is pretty much all you need...
Of course, it is however more fun seeing waveforms on the scope! But being digital pulses in SS machines (except for audio out), not much to see...
Bonne chance ! - Sylvain.

If you decide you want an oscilloscope or any good quality test equipment, I highly recommend contacting Chris Kruitz [ck17_chris@hotmail.com] stratatek17 http://search.ebay.ca/_W0QQsassZstratatek17 on eBay. A very talented Engineering student at McMaster who has taken up refurbishing and reselling equipment in tested and sometimes still certified condition. I have met him personally (he lives in Hamilton) and give him my highest recommendation - feel free to mention my name, I'm sure he'd appreciate the business, it's helping put him through University. I've bought a scope, two DMMs and a High Voltage probe and have been happy with all of them and the service he provides.
I have a 35 Mhz Hitachi which is in good shape and I have owned for years. The only reason I would sell it is I have one at work I can borrow at any time. If someone is interested, PM me an offer.
It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!

Is it hijacking, to ask for logic probe recommendation? Active has them from $30 - $60. What features are needed to avoid the need for a scope... ( I was surfing ebay for a scope just because I figure I should have one - makes me look smart, no?)
I bought a logic probe 20.00 shipping included on ebay and a controlled temperature lcd soldering station for 100$ shipping included. Active sell similar soldering station for 199$ + tx

I have no recommendations on a brand/model.
You should check that the chosen Logic Probe has TTL & CMOS capability, with LEDs and audio. With a certain minimum frequency (15-20 MHz min).
Mine is an older Radio Shack Micronta Logic probe. As indicated by Hal-9000, eBay is a good place to buy such used/affordable tools/instruments.
Cheers, - Sylvain.
