So what is the history of MAACA? Did Sparky create this wonderfull group? Anyone want to fill me in on some of the history (original members, etc.) Just curious. Figured I ought to know more about MAACA seeing as it (and jvegas) has sucked me into the hobby. Thanks.

How many of the members are operators as well as collectors?

Tom.

Macphreak was the only one here for 4 years. He had very lonely conversations with himself until the others joined.

In the beginning all was darkness...  Then MAACA emerged from the void and it was all bright lights and fancy dinner parties from then on.

Well, that's how they taught it when I went to school... We are talking about the same thing aren't we?

I don't now if Pizza and Coke counts as a fancy dinner party, but there definitely were lots of bright lights on Saturday...especially bright were those in Sparky's eyes while he looked at Silverball Mania!! ...

well I invited splitskull and sparky over to play pinball from RGP we played all my games ate pizza and thought wouldnt it be fun to have a canadian site. so Ian registered the domain name (after we went through many names) i called up my very good friend macpreak (Steph) and asked him if he could whip up a little page for us sky was the limit. we were thrilled with anything and got more than we asked for. when the forum was in place I spammed alot of pinball/arcade people and then they just came more after when I posted Free classifieds. we still had meetings while the site grew, to this day we are amazed it survived and how many people use it. the main focus is to "help".

Nice little history lesson. Thanks.

Well I am certainly glad you guys had a few beers and pizza on that fatefull night because it sure has helped a lot of people. From what I have seen so far I really like the MAACa community.

Hopefully I will learn enough that I will be able to help others in the future as much as everyone here has helped me.

Pretty much it... I posted on RGP asking if anyone from Montreal wanted to meet. JD answered, and Splitskull, JD and I met mid-May 2004. We met again a month later and thought "hey... you know, it really sucks that we don't all know all the tricks and tips in the hobby". I knew a few things that the others didn't, and vice-versa. We thought it would be a cool thing to have a site where all the info any newbie needed would be there. We spent a couple of hours and a few 0.5 beers figuing out a group name (Splitskull came up with it I believe...) and in August 2004 MacPhreak created the webpage. The better part of the first year of existence of MAACA, all 3 of us would help out new members to buy pins... we would go see them with them and help out. Azatotht was our first member who asked for help... on his second pin!   (he was a "satisfied" Alouette customer when he registered!). BZM was our second member and brought us the vids point of view (and made me rediscover them!!).

As stated, the rest is history!!!  4 years and still going!!!!!
