They create a ''Do-Not-Call List'' so that telemarketers don't call you, they advertise it MASSIVELY over a month, and on the day it is live and you can register, it frickin crashes.

Brilliant.... bloody brilliant.

Somehow, our fearless leaders and the minds that run this country didn't think that people would hit the site so much. Nahh... we all love telemarketers. Why should we ban them?  

Duh...

Well, at least after trying for the ost part of the day, I managed to do my numbers.

I'm not sure what it's like in other parts of the country but after reading the exempt list I didn't bother.
It didn't seem that it would make a difference in the amount of calls I'd be getting... All bark, no bite.

Now if I could sign up to quit getting calls for "Mr Good-lick" that would be another matter.

Worked for me, but I got to ask the question. What stops telemarketers from just entering your number and taking you off the list? There is no password or email confirmation.

They will be subjected to fines if they use numbers of people who are on the list.  Most of the telemarketers that piss me off are the banks, credit card, phone and the cable company.  Their size doesn't prevent them from swallowing fines BUT the PR hit could be very bad if they don't comply to this new registration so I suspect in one month from now, I'll have more peaceful meals.

....Or it's a great repository for ALL telemarketers to get Canadian phone numbers....

Note that all the companies that are exempted must also maintain their own do not call list and you can request to be placed on that list (which in theory will keep them away for between 2-4 years I believe)
