For my part LOTR is all the way better than Spiderman I don't know what's the people have with Spiderman,I sold Spiderman and Lord of the ring and my only regret is Lord for all the game play
wish list : Big house? yes big house, not the pinball gottlieb's,real big house for more machine
The rime of the ancient game:Hight hand,LAE,6MDM,Spiderman,Freddy, South park,Night rider,Elvis,Lethal weapon,EBD,Power play,Pinbot,Lotr, CFTBL,CV,Getaway,CBW,BK,JM,BTC,JD,VND,SPIDERMAN,TOM
I own both. Would never sell BSM and already sold HUO LOTR once and soon to sell the routed one I bought and cleaned up(to try to convince myself it was a fun game to own ). For pure fun and flow - SM has LOTR beat. It's fast and for me the theme is miles above LOTR. I can appreciate LOTR for it's shots and somewhat flow but I don't like the theme so that kills it for me. I also play pinball to have fun so the deeper ruleset is not as impt to me either. On that note tho I have a TSPP(considered the deepest game) and really enjoy that game due to it's variety of shots and jokes (even tho I've never seen one episode of the Simpsons).
Good luck trying to buy a SM tho - the few that come up are selling fast and the price is rising. LOTR are still easily found and price is more stable and lower at this point.

I own both and right now I'm enjoying SM a LOT more, but that may be because it's more new to me. LOTR is a fantastic game, but it's a bit clunky. SM flows and has much smarter rules. LOTR may have more rules, but I prefer SM's simpler and more down to earth rules.

-The Getaway: High Speed II!! -Spider-Man -F-14 Tomcat -Guns N' Roses -Lord of the Rings -Twilight Zone
-Medieval Madness! -Indiana Jones (Williams) -Star Trek: The Next Generation -Champion Pub -Terminator 3 -Congo -Johnny Mnemonic -Tales of the Arabian Nights
LOTR by a landslide for me. I have both. LOTR is a more intense game. One of my chief complaints with Spidey is you can bat the ball around, focus on Sandman, and have a pretty decent score. With LOTR, you really have to play the game to get a half decent score -- no batting the ball around without focus.
Another complaint with Spidey it doesn't introduce the modes. You shot the ball to the back and a mode starts as the ball is kicked out. With most (all?) games they introduce the mode and then kick the ball out.
In spite of my complaints with Spidey, I enjoy the game, love the theme, and love the artwork. I like having both and don't see either leaving, but if I could only have one -- LOTR!

I found it to be opposite. It seems like with LOTR, it's really easy to get a good score and progress by just shooting up the middle. It's the only shot you need to make to advance through all 6 modes, then TABA. For the mutiballs, most people reach them by pure accident.
With Spider-Man, to get the best scores you need to aim for the white arrows, then strategically assign the 2x/3x multipliers (I explained this in another thread).
About the mode starts, on my SM it waits for the intros to finish before sending the ball back into play (unless the intro is skipped). Do you have the latest ROMs? Maybe you have different settings.

I have LOTR and will be buying a SM very soon. I have put much time on both machines and I love both. They are not the same type of game which is why I want both. Apples and Oranges kinda thing.
Have: LOTR SE, IJ (Wms), SW (DE), Corvette, Seawitch, Stars Sold: Future Spa, Meteor, Seawitch
