Hey Pinbot,

In case you haven't figured it out yet I was pulling your leg.  As previously mentioned the fine art of nudging is an essential element of good pinball play.  I do it all the time and there's no risk to damaging the game if its executed properly.   Just having a bit of fun thats all.

Just curious... what's the difference between a nudge and a 'bangback'?  I remember someone here saying bangbacks are against the rules in tournaments.

Here's a video of a bangback.

And for those who get an error like I do, here's an http link.  Go to the bottom of the page, right click on BANGBACK and "Save as", then play it from your computer.

hehehe  I used to have a rule that if you moved the game far enough to squish your fingers on the game beside it, you had to let it go!! Never had to enforce it, but I have moved and seen games moved a long way!! I guess this is easier to do with the games sitting on little squares of carpet on a wood floor! Let me tell you, you have to be lucky and smooth to do it!

That's because Bally/Williams got stupid in the later years... look at any old pin and notice the convenient wire rails behind the flippers... those were there specifically for this. Why they removed them? Who knows... maybe some idiot in the finance department decided to save 1.75$ in production costs per game... thus, creating an opportunity for bangbacks.

Retiring soon...

i remeber going to the Big & Little store back in 79 and my brother and me taking turns holding the machine up and putting stuff under the legs to even it out so the ball wouldn't ever go down.   didn't work on all machines because some would tilt.  then we would only put them up slightly.   i am from a big family of 10.  so if you had any money to play a machine you wanted it to last.  just another cheat.  that and we use to go up to machines and kick them underbellies and get a free credit or two.  i use to do that to haunted house at Phils Arcade.  what a a** i was.

That's pretty cool, you could keep a ball for hours with that kind of skill.  I can see why you are not allowed to do that at a tournament, but damn that takes talent!

Yeah but the palm of your hand will be pretty sore afterwards.

I'll show you if / when you pick "it" up and have time to drop by ...

works really well with the powerball   ...and yes, it hurts a lot so it really has to be worth it ... you don't do it just cause "you can"

Funhouse works really well too when it comes from the right outlane ... you just need to time it and give a push to the machine.  Had a blast in 1991 in the arcades with that one until the Arcade owner saw me, came and sat next to me until I did it again, pushed me aside and adjusted the tilt ...

Nudging is a big no-no at my place because my machines are sitting on brand new floors. Excessive nudging would scratch the sh*t out of my floors.

Who am I kidding .... this hobby and my girlfriend's high heels have already destroyed my hardwood floors. I should just suck it up.

Nudging is fine as long as you have the tilt mechanism set to a reasonable level (and not too easy either).

Mani, you are supposed to put those light brown felts that they sell at every dollar store  (or pharmacie) to protect your floors when moving or nudging pinball machines....

If the floors scratch due to average walking around from high heels, alas, they were not the best quality to begin with.  If she practices some disco dancing in front of the mirror  every weekend before going out, well, that is another story.
