Really, really, really play this game before you buy it. Played one in a bar years ago. Enjoyed it and bought one later. Turned out I enjoyed the beer. The game is awful and an anchor to sell. If you decide you have to get one, don't pay much as you will have a hell of a time selling it later at anything near "book" value.

Anchor to sell? the ones for sell in the classified (not Maaca) didn't last more than a week here (750 to 900$) Collectors may spits on it, but people like this game for some reason! Occasional players likes it, not many shots to master and can have long ball time even if you're not a good player or drunk.
If you're a competitive player or play often alone, not the better choice... if you play only once in a while or only with friends to kill time before the hockey game or the boxing bout start, it's not that bad.

Harsh.

I would have to disagree. It is not a complex game with terribly difficult shots but I find it to be fun, good music and voices (if you don't mind western; I don't), and not too hard on the eyes. "You shore need that ramp ... You shore need that ramp ... You shore need that ramp" can be a little annoying at times but MAKE THE RAMP! It's usually the video mode. I have yet to achieve the 8-ball half-million, darnit.

An OP once told me CBW was his best earner when he had a route. I used to drive up to a local bar in my 'youth' just to play this pin when it came out. Check out the opinions on IPDB with a grain of salt but they are fairly accurate: http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?gid=610.

I have one that's still has factory mylar and in fantastic condition. I don't know if I would let it go. I think this is an excellent pin for the non-collector and would be a great addition to a basement if it is the only one they intend to own.

I disagree completely....you can have long ball times if you are drunk

The game sucks. Plain and simple. There is nothing, I repeat....nothing...redeeming in the game. It gets old QUICK. I'm talking play it for an hour and you are thinking "Holy crap, why did I buy this boat anchor???"

Yes, if you can buy it dirt cheap....$750 range...I guess it could sell. I know I had a hell of a time selling it, but that was a long time ago and well before MAACA.

I still stand by what I said, it sucks. Buy any other DMD. I honestly cann't think of a worse DMD game. It is that bad.

Harsh.

Not harsh enough. Did I mention this game SUCKS. I had players come to my house, say...."This isn't a bad game". One hour later, you could almost time it, they would then say "Yep, I can see how this gets old".

! Buy an old working EM. The game will play better and you can buy lots and lots of beer. To make it feel like CBW, just have someone say "You shure need that ramp shot" over and over until you want to pick up the machine and throw it threw the dry wall.

Did I mention the game sucks

Hehe, looks like someone *really* did not enjoy CBW

I had one a few years ago, and did enjoy it for the time I had it.
Yes, rules are not deep enough, and the 'you sure need that ramp'
was a little annoying, however the sound/music, multiball, light show,
and numerous drop targets made the game otherwise fun.

This is one of the best System 3 Gottlieb/Premier (in addition to Stargate).
Reliable too, plus affordable as a dot-matrix.

Cheers,
- Sylvain.

Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron,
1986 Williams Grand Lizard, 1991 Williams Bride of Pinbot, and a few others.
Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for
one machine on my want list, non-working/unshopped welcome!

I have spoken to several people that have owned this machine and really liked it. To quote Necro, "Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one". It is not my thing, but that doesnt make it ebola.

If I recall Duane has a real hate on for Dr Who,

Deja vu? I really like Dr Who,  and I AM a collector, albeit not for nearly as long as Duane. Taste is very subjective. I am sure Duane and I will agree on many things, but I STILL like anchovies on my pizza.

You are right, I hate Dr. Who, but CBW makes Dr. Who look like MM in terms of game play.

Yep, I think the game is garbage. No one, and I mean no one, that played the game at my place said, "Man, I have to get one". Every other game in my collection grabs at least one of my friends or visitors. Not CBW. Even that damn Dr. Who had it's fans.

I think you liked it because it was reliable and you didn't have to fix it   Joking....

Seriously one of the best System 3s? No way! There are 33 Systems 3s -- just checked on IPDB. I won't compare it to all of them, but it is certainly closer to the bottom. Right off the top of my head, these are way better: Wipe Out, Freddy, Silver Slugger, Vegas, Stargate, etc.

I agree System 3s are reliable which is good with CBW as you will find yourself wanting to pick it up, throw it down, throw it against the wall --- pretty much anything other than play it.

Did I mention the game sucks....

This is the last I will post on it, promise

Just wanted to warn someone new to the hobby. I'd hate to see someone get this game and then get turned off to pinball. There are ALOT better games for the money. Any Sys 11 will be better. A cheap Williams DMD will be bettter -- any of them.

Good luck on your search,
Duane

I have this game, this is the third one I bought and she will stayfor long!! This is a "cool" game, you don't have to "se casser l'bicycle" to play this game!
The price for a fair CBW is about $1000-$1200.... You can find one for less than that, but the condition come with the price!
You can have a better game but you can have worse too!!! And these system 3 are built like a tank!!

I would have to disagree too with Duane comments!

And yes, You sure need that ramp shot....... like "shoot the lamp" or.....

I can just see it in the classifeds: "For Sale- Dr Who pinball, plays like Medieval Madness as compared to Cue Ball Wizard"

Incidently the only major flaw I find with Dr Who is 3 out of 4 games it beats the mess out of me. Now that forth game...

The real plus with Dr Who is great DMD animations for its time, and the sound track is the original sythhesized music. Most other pinball soundtracks of that era are synthesized versions of original music, whereas Dr Who is a very early original synthesized soundtrack in the first place.
