Ok, for those who may know....I turn the machine on and the 1'st player 7 digit display says _2300_5 and the game will not play. The board says 0 at testing on the board that should mean all is good but whty the _2300_5 ? Also if I shut the game off and on a number of times it will turn on normally and the game will start; however now when you are playing all of a sudden the game stops scoring, drop targets quit coming back up and the sound sticks on same tune for a moment and then the sound resumes and flippers flip but that is all. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
PS:Oh yeah, I just changed the batteries.

Many Williams pinball machines I repaired from that era suffered from a corroded or broken battery holder, hence even with fresh batteries, the 3.6 volts would not get to the 5101 RAM memory chip... Causing the machine to boot in audit mode.
With regards to the machine 'stopping', I wonder if this may not be another case of bad connector/pins (or cold solder joints under heared pins) between the driver board and MPU... Try removing and reinserting the driver board from the MPU, as a start (to see if this is the problem area).
Good luck, - Sylvain.

In audit mode ("04 00" in the credit/ball-in-play display, where "04" is audits, and "00" is the first audit number), the numbers shown in the player1 score display are the value for the audit number shown in the ball-in-play display. For audit "00", which is the software identification audit, the last number is the game's current software revision number (version 2 in the above picture). The middle three numbers are the game number (i.e. 497 is Firepower; see the Game List section for all the game titles and game numbers). And the first number determines the "flipper ROMs" version installed. Remember Williams used a color coded system:
