The ball actually comes out from between the flippers instead of a traditional plunger on that game too, if I'm not mistaken.

I love the idea of no plungeer, great way to maximize the playfield width. Metroid Pinball for the DS launches the ball from between the flippers too. Man, I'd really like to play this game.

Yes, fun way to launch the ball, and gives more real estate to the PF.

This is not a new idea however, this was already done in some EMs.
One of them is the 1977 Gottlieb Big Hit for instance.
