Hi guys, I am mainly a Video Game guy but lately, I am getting the itch to start buying more Pinball Machines.
I believe there are these VisualPinball or PinMame or similar named emulators for PC that makes one relive the sights/sounds of old pinball machines. Do they include 80s machines?
If yes, can someone point out what I need to download and where (if not too copyright, etc.). I want to try some games such as these:
Black Knight (Williams) Elektra (Bally) Embryon(Bally) Fathom (Bally) Lost World (Bally) Mr. & Mrs. Pac-Man (Bally) Paragon (Bally) Sorcerer (Williams) Swords Of Fury (Williams) Xenon (Bally)
Oh, and how about a modern pinball: Star Trek (Data East) Indiana Jones Trilogy (Williams)
Thanks.

The place for all your Pinmame needs is http://www.vpforums.com . To make Pinmame work properly, you need to download 2 programs... VPINMAME (which runs the roms) and Visual Pinball (which have the programmed tables). All the roms are available on the Internet Pinball Database at http://www.ipdb.org .
Step 1: Create a folder where you will put all the files in. I always create a PINMAME folder in the program files directory.
Step 2: Get Visual Pinball at http://www.vpforums.com . Go in the downloads, click on Visual pinball, and it will give you 5 choices. Download VISUAL PINBALL TB6.1 (FULL INSTALL) and put it in your Pinmame folder. Extract all of the files in that zip file and put it in the Pinmame folder. You see the folder named TABLES? That is where you will put in all of your downloaded tables. SAMPLES is used for certain sounds. Execute the setup file to finish the installation of Visual Pinball.
Step 3: Get the new .EXE file for Visual Pinball. In the same downloads section as Visual Pinball tb6.1, the last option is for VISUAL PINBALL TB6.1-FIX5 (EXE ONLY). Download this, extract it, and replace the original Visual Pinball.exe file with this one. It is a fix for a bug. The old version causes Pinmame to shut down when exiting a table while using Windows XP... just annoying.
Step 4: Get VPinmame to run roms. In the download section, click on VPINMAME add-ons, and you get 4 choices. Download VPinmame 1.52 and put it in your PINMAME folder. Extract all files and put them in your PINMAME folder with the visual pinball files. Execute the setup file to get it installed properly. See the ROMS folder? That is where you put your roms... (duh! ; ) ).
Step 5: In the same downloads section, download the first choice, VBS scripts, put it in the TABLES folder, EXTRACT IT all and put the files in the TABLES folder as well. These are needed to run it all.
Step 6: In the same downloads section, download the last option, VPinMAME SAMPLES. Send the UNEXTRACTED zip file to your SAMPLES folder and leave it as is. It MUST be named pinmame.zip to work. These are your basic pinball table sounds.
Step 7: Download your tables. In http://www.vpforums.com downloads, go to the TABLES section of Visual Pinball downloads, and download the tables you want. BEWARE... there are download restrictions... 5 minutes between downloads, and max 5 per day. I have TONS so I can send you a few by email if needed. Send all your table files to your TABLES folder, and EXTRACT them in the folder directly... do not create a folder inside the tables folder as Windows XP suggests to when you extract the files. Put them directly in TABLES. I recommend to delete the zip file once your table file is extracted... it just takes up memory for nothing.
Step 8: Get the roms for your tables on http://www.ipdb.org . Find your table, and the roms are usually there. They are named PINMAME ROM SETS, and are usually small, unless you are downloading a recent dmd pin. Simply send the downloaded zip files to your ROMS folder, WITHOUT EXTRACTING.
Step 9: Run Visual Pinball. Click on the updated version of VisualPinball.exe (the file with the steel-gray ball icon). Once it is open, click on the OPEN under the FILE column. If you properly extracted the table file, it will be there. Double click on it to run it. Click PLAY.
At this point, if your ROMS are incorrect, it will tell you. For some reason, some roms seem to be incorrect, but when you click on RUN IT ANYWAYS, sometimes they do.
At this point, it should be all good. Once table runs, PRESS F2 for a breakdown of what buttons do what actions, like flippers, coin-ups, start, service menus... The ESC key is used as a PAUSE or to EXIT.
Other important thing... when you play your first game, if you happen to press one of the shift buttons 5 times in a row, Windows will pop up a menu about Filter Keys, which are activated by hitting SHIFT 5 times. Disable it when it asks you. It will not happen again after.
I think I pretty much covered it. Hope this helps some of you.
sparky makes it a little too long there (but it's complete )
it's easy as 1- download pinmame, unzip, run setup.exe, click install 2- download and install visual pinball 3- download roms in pinmame\roms and tables in visual pinball\tables
Thanks Sparky and other guys, this is super detailed info. Can't wait to play....

Actually, it was 2:06am... you didn't change your time setting on your account.
Nah... he woke up at 12am for a bottle and some comforting, was back in bed at 1am, and slept until 8am!!!! If anything, I am the one keeping myself up... still a bit nervous!
There is a full MSI installer with tables and roms included on it. Check around on some of the fileshare programs. You may have to update the version of pinmame since it has an expiry date but it would get you going quick.
But you should look over Sparky's post to add additional pins.
Pinballs go into Visual Pinball tables folder. Roms go into roms folder.
Run once to create nvram file (automatic). Restart the pin again and it will work.
Note: sometimes the script may have to reside with the table in the table folder. Then just copy and paste the appropriate script from the script folder.
Hi. I am trying to play Swords Of Fury from Williams on this Visual Pinball / PinMame. The sound for this one emulation is really loud (and causes my sound card to clip a lot). Is there a way to set the volume via the options for this game only (or other Williams System 11 type)?
Thanks.

click le "score" et de la c'est comme mame avec le "~"
Si ce sont les sons des flippers pis des bumpers qui sont trop fort, dans visual pinball, sous preferences, audio options, baisse le son de PLAY SOUND. (good for all games)
2This has got to be the worst install i have ever seen on a f*&?%ING PC....
Maybe... but it's FREE so quit complaining and get it working!
