Well, seems like news travels, so I will have to come out with it...

Since the beginning, MAACA has been solely funded by me and your contributions. In time, we were hoping that some advertising (preferably hobby-related companies) would come along and make the site self-sufficient. Well, after almost 3 years, it still isn't, but something weird has come up a couple of months ago...

Believe it or not, an American company (for which I will not name over my dead body in case I jinx something in the future, and it might be bogus anyways, so don't even bother asking...) has contacted me and offered 5000$US to buy MAACA.

...Your read correctly.

After discussion and some thinking, I turned them down.

We all wish that the site remain free and open to all, and I didn't want to hinder that in any way. The only reason I am coming out with this useless information is because I leaked it out by accident and I wanted to confirm what happened before the rumor mill started.

So no worries, keep enjoying this site freely to your hearts content!!! We may be poor, but we are not going anywhere!!!

PS: to any representative of the company, I won't take anything less than 10000$

You sure it wasn't a cease and desist?

Sounds like nonsense but I guess we could live the illusion of flattering ourselves that we actually have something worthwhile to say.

No worries. The last time I checked B.S. went for a lot less than 5g's.

It's the delivery of it that costs I guess.

By the way if you Google "steaming pile of mess gif" look what you get. Mark's avatar!
Now that is the most profound thing I have said all day!
No offence Mark..... but I got to wonder what you Google these days???

IMHO, MAACA is worth much more than that and suuuuure, sell it and start a new one. wouldn't take long for people to sign up again.

Go on take the money and RUN! It would take me less than a day to set up a new forum and site.

I agree it is virtually worthless. It would be easy to redirect members to a new site.

Setting up a forum with an ISP is childsplay. Besides the software itself is freeware licensed by Eblah so what are you really selling? It isn't like "maaca.ca" is "superbowl.com".

A little bird told me that TOPL may be going to forum as well. and there is also cgcc so there really is limited value other than membership, which is only as good as the people who contribute to it, make it.

Do the math, currently 477 members of which probably 20% are regulars. Even if we look at the entire group, who is going to invest $10 for every head on the forum.

Probably the biggest attribute is the forum getting indexed by search engines over the past three years for pinball hits.

Like I mentioned to others, it could very well be bogus. I take it more as flattery than a chance to make a buck. If we are getting noticed, must be because we are doing something right...
