I agree with Glen on Corvettes... I drove my buddy's Z06 last night at the poker night.
F**k Ferrari. You can keep your Italian overpriced kit car. Besodes... there is NO WAY IN HELL you are going to find a place to drive where you will be able to appreciate the difference between a Ferrari and a Corvette.
And take it from someone who used to repair Lamborguinis (I worked at a garage where 4 rich Italians would have their Countachs and Diablos repaired)... Italians break down A LOT, and some repairs cost more than a Vette. They are by no means meant to be driven on a daily basis, while other than the gas prices, I wouldn't worry about a Vette in the long run.
The biggest repair I assisted on on a Diablo was a blown transmission due to a leaking seal which oiled the clutch... the guy was flooring it to try and make it move. Guess what happened when the clutch started to bite all of a sudden and 500+HP rammed into the trannsmission.
BOOM.
Repair cost for a transmission, including having a Lambo technician from Italy, his hotel and meals, and the transmission itself = 94000$ in 1994. Needless to say, the Diablo was replaced 3 months later by a Porsche.
ewww, american muscle. i'd rather have alec baldwin staring back at me.
Don't laugh... you can fix American Muscle with a hammer and a screwdriver. Try working on an Italian job... you will be crying all the way to the bank.
A few years back when they were new, a buddy of mine bought a brand new Countach. By the way he proceeded to go bankrupt shortly there after but that is a different story.
It felt like a kit car to ride in. Very unrefined. Problems like for instance every 200 KM's the speedo cable broke.
One day while the car is still under supposed warranty, he starts the engine and kaboom it blows.
Goes to the dealer to get it fixed. No warranty. Their reason? He didn't warm it up properly. It blew up on start... Warm up?... What's he supposed to do? Attach an external heater to the engine before cranking? In the summer none the less?
POS IMHO.
I don't own a Vette and probably never will. Once in a blue moon I take out the old mustang, just to add to my carbon signature.
I'd get into this debate, but it's not worth it. Plain and simple, I'll take a Japanese car any day of the week. Better fit and finish. More bang bang for the buck. I'd put a sup'd up Jap import against a Corvette on a track....one with bends and twists.
If I had gobs of money, I'd get a Porsche over a Corvette any day of the week. Unless we are talking a classic 63 split window, but that's not for performance. That car is pure style.
