... people in Allentown would probably eat them!

Just got back from A-town from what could be possibly my last trip there. I guess it's good for peeps that are in to restoring, buying-selling, etc, but I have more fun at one of Medvet's meets and it's a lot cheaper!

I was dissapointed in this year's convention for the following reasons:

- new floor plan leads me to believe there were less machines than in the previous years (perhaps just an optical illusion though)

- a lot of machines were either not working well, turned off, not on free play, or all of the above

- like the two years before, I found it hard to meet Maaca members and/or to join members in the evening to get to know them better. Too cliquey for my taste (or maybe I should change deodorant brands or something!) One would think this is perfect opportunity to finally meet people you only 'see' online. The ironic part is that there was a thread before the trip where there seemed to be a lot of people interested in getting together but that was pretty much transparent once there. I did however enjoy one-on-one interaction with members that I already knew

Regarding my subject line, I'm always appaled at seing the crap people eat there when there's a fantastic farmers' market right next door with an incredible selection of international food, fresh produce, meat, dairy and baked goods. No wonder the American govt' doesn't want to invest in a national health care plan... it might actually cost more than what they already pump into the war machine

Just my little rant for the day

Alex

I had trouble meeting / talking with people too, but you have to understand .. with a 24 hour round-trip and only about 10 hours of actual, solid pinball time, your time really is limited.  You'd be better off meeting people at Starburst.  It's not that any of us were trying to be rude at all.. just that it was tough to cut into the deal-time.

I too was annoyed by the non-freeplay games ... very dumb

I have to agree with mslave here.  It's not that I didn't want to meet new people, I was just way too busy looking through all the stuff vendors had to offer.  Lots of hidden treasures to find.  As for the 'free play' area, I think the whole time I was there I played all of 3 games.  I wasn't really there to play as much as I was there to find stuff to buy. (I went to Expo for the free play area)

Was fortunate enough to attend Scott's party on Friday night, where I more than made up for my lack of playing games I've never seen before, and meeting new people. (not to mention sampling some food and consuming many beverages)

Good times with good friends.

Love the avatar!

I thought A-town was the place to go for freeplay machines.   Went to Rochester last year - and it was fun but not enough machines to try out.   I guess we are spoiled here with the MAACA-meetings where generally a wide selection of machines are nicely shopped.  It looked like all the new Sterns would be there - and I was hoping for some wedgehead / system-1 to try out too.   Is that not the place to find them?   That wedgehead Dimension MrHide had photos looks gorgeous.

I think you'd be better off going to the PBHoF in Vegas to play all the new machines, and old machines in good condition. Sure, it's not free play, but that just makes getting the Replay more exciting!

Yeah agree.   Freeplay isn't a big draw, 'cause I'm sure even with my skills I could play as long as could stand for $20-40... .   Good idea, cheap fares, I just have no interest in gambling.   I guess there's more in Vegas to see though...

The trick is to go there for a convention/trade show you're interested in and make time for PBHoF. That's what I do. I never gamble a penny.
