I tell a guy on RGP that I will buy his stuff no problem.  He's totally nice and is ready to deal and when I ask for the shipping to Canada he just comes back saying I don't deal with Canada and then never responds to any of my followup emails.

WTF?

That's just really sad and disappointing to say the least...

Par for the course, really.

Some Americans are cool, some aren't. That's why Bush keeps winning by under 1% of the popular vote. Half of Americans understand that he's a complete brainless idiot and the other half think that Canada is a sub-zero communist country with a population of dog-sleddin', back-bacon eatin' soapstone carvers. And that's only IF they think about anyone but themselves at all!

EDIT: With respect to not shipping to Canada, however, I've heard that USPS picks up domestic packages at the shipper's door, whereas they have to go to the post office to ship internationally. For that reason alone, many won't deal with anyone outside the USA.

For Ebay stuff I don't even bother mentioning that I'm Canadian.
I just have the item(s) shipped to a border store on the U.S side that offers parcel services and then drive down to pick them up... Is the only benefit I've found to living 45min from the border.

I have a US office, without one I'd be missing out on a lot of parts/deals. Its a pain in the a** when people won't ship to Canada.

i have no problem being a pround canadian.  i tell all and even if auction states they only ship inside the U.S..  i email them and only once in awhile does any seller say "no".  usally they state it was nice of me to ask and no problem.  if they don't want to send it to me, then fine.  i could always get it sent to family address down there.  but usally not a worry.

That's not too much different than here. If I have a domestic package I can drop it into any red mailbox that I can cram it into. For International packages I have to go to the local postal outlet. To me it's no big deal, it's part of the 'cost' of doing business.

As for US e-bay sellers, I have encountered quite a few that won't sell to me even though I have a USA ship-to address that I send *everything* I buy in the USA to now. It's just the fact that I'm Canadian. Americans seem to be quite happy and smug in thier own little back-water hick-hillbilly paradise, and don't want to deal with the rest of the planet.

They say that every country gets the leader they deserve. George 'dubbaya' Bush will never get assasinated, he's causing much more harm to his country alive than killing him could ever cause. *lol*

The only difference is that in Canada we have postal outlet
in practiclally every corner or convenience store.
(...I've got THREE postal outlets within 5Km of my house ! )

In the US, you typcially have ONE post office per town or city.
(... more for big cities of course ), so finding one is a pain,
and the waiting time once you find one, is horrendous.

It sucks, but I can understand someone not wanting
to "waste" an hour at the post office to mail a Int'l package.

Not wanting to ship to a "Canadian" (even with a US postal address),
is just plain moronic.

Cheers,
Steph

I can't agree more Steph. Unfortunatly I'm encountering it more and more often with E-Bay sellers, and it is unlikely that we will see it get any better.

I know, I've had a few bonehead US sellers as well.

I have a US PO Box AND as US UPS Parcel pick-up outlet
so that I can't get either type of shipment, and still I sometimes get the
"...oh, you're in Canada, I don't sell up there ...".

I just hope I get one of these bozos asking me for an eprom one day....
"...oh, you're in the US, sorry, I don't ship to people who's IQ match the pin count
on the chip... "

Luckily,  "those"  people are only about 1 in 20 ...for me anyways.

Cheers,
Steph
