Start with selling the vids... Robotron, Defender, Joust and replace with a multi-williams. Frees up space, brings in some cash. I say this knowing that I will lose a game!
The driving games are easy enough to find again. They seem to pop up here several times a year.
You will always be able to replace any of the games (TZ included) down the road.
Yes, you're bang-on about "knowing what to do... "
But I think there is an extra step I need to do first...
I need to decide which games I absolutely want most in the games room.
My room currently has 3 full-size driving games ( Daytona Twin and Cruis'n USA single ).
I bought those games thinking of my 3 boys, but the reality is that a 3yr old won't play a driving game until his feet can reach the pedals !
So I think I need to really decide which games are "real" keepers, and which ones were "nice-to-have".
I think the TZ is a "real" keeper, so something else will have to go.
As for all the other games, I think I'm going to have some tough choices this summer...
Steph
Bingo!! this scenario is exactly why I told that guy to post his wanted TZ ad with the price he was willing to pay. There is always someone sitting on a game that they need a push to make a decision. Is the decision to sell the wanted game, that is the short answer, but you are on the right track with deciding what you really need to keep if you do indeed thin the heard. Pick the games YOU really want to keep, for reasons that are important to You! This includes games you like, games your Kids like and will continue to like and even games your Wife likes, any cross over is a good one. It is very difficult to "thin a heard" for collectors, but sometimes it is cleansing.
I would look at the big picture, as you are, and bring the games you want home, keep the future projects if you have space, fine tune the drivers to a group you really like and if you can link them so all can play together and you are happy with the games, go that route. Stuff you might like later, well Might is a big word, everything is available, patience and $$$ can get you anything, More $$$ = less patience. I think Patience is what you will need as you are looking at 10 + years down the road.
This is probably sounding hypocritical coming from me, but I go through a similar scenario all the time, why do I still have games folded up that are good, but will probably never get set up here... I don't know, but I still sit on them as I am not under stress to sell them, whether it is pressure from family, or financial or just space. I have often sold a game just because I had a buyer and the game was "OK" to me (top of the list to others, but OK to me), there are Lots of good games and not so much space to set them all up, will I regret moving some "A" titles, probably, but can I replace it later... sure, will I want to? Maybe, but I get to enjoy something else in the mean time. 10 years is a long time, better to enjoy life and worry about the games later. Everything is available...
Dave (Rambling, Rambling, Rambling, but soul searching as well...)
Here are games I would like to acquire this year, or sometime...
24 Iron Man Attack From Mars Prefer Pounded playfield! Monster Bash Prefer Pounded Playfield! Elvis Sopranos Batman Forever Spider-Man Stern Prefer Pounded Playfield!
Have these available for trade or possible sale: Corvette South Park Theatre of Magic Twilight Zone RFM/SW:EP1 Nucore Combo AFM
In the end only you can decide what to do, but a Happy wife = Happy life.
My wife has never said a word about my collecting, except when I had 17 pins in my basment and 3 were folded. Sometimes you just have to look at reality, I am down to 10 pins now (mainly because we are supposed to move, but the crazy real estate market has put a hold on that thought for now), but I realize that I still only play 4 pin with any regularity. The rest sit there including my MM. Before I get PM's if I want to sell MM, the answer is no, because we all like to have pins and other games even if they only sit there. I sold the pins I can live without and am happy with my decision, the only one I miss is NF which I will replace someday.
I think you already know what you need to do, once you are comfartable with the decision, you will do what you need to do.
It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!
Hi Steph. I don't know you well, (you burned some ROMs for me a couple times I think) but here's my 2 cents: Get rid of the big huge driving games. The space they occupy is not worth it. Those alone give room for the TZ and getting the Chexx out of the laundry room. You might even be able to bring PP2 home as well into the freed space, giving you a driving game for that occasional racing fix (assuming PP2 = Pole POsition 2)
