Ok, i've been using this for a while but it appears that most people doesn't know about it.

If you are sending money to a non-commercial entity (buying a game from a collector for example) you can both save the Paypal fees.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Free when the money comes from PayPal balance or bank account.

2.9% + $0.30 CAD when the money comes from a credit card
(the sender decides who pays this fee).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm mentioning it because i did quite a few transactions lately and people seemed scared to accept Paypal because they didn't want to eat the fees.

It is clear now, as a seller, that you can avoid them, either the buyer pays using his bank account or balance OR he opt in to pay the fees himself from the start, so in both case you are ok.

Make sure to choose the "Personal Transfer" tab however to use this option.

Not entirely true...

The seller will get fees no matter how the buyer provides the funds
(...unless the buyer accepts to pay the fees )

Paying from a credit card will incur HIGHER fees than what you posted above.

Otherwise, paying from either an existing Paypal balance or your bank account
will indeed incur the  $0.30 + 2.9% fee.

Credit card payments are higher
(..I'm not sure of the exact cost, I think it's  $0.30 + 4.9%  ).

But yes, if the buyer decides to make a "personal" payment,
he pays the fees, which is usually "only"  1%

C'est ça MAIS tu dois choisir l'onglet "personal" absolument.

Et je suis pas certain que c'est valide si le vendeur est en dehors du Canada, je pense que c'est au Canada seulement.

I can't read the frenchie stuff but the one part you are forgetting about is the fee to actually get the money out of your paypal account.

So while the transfer between two people may be free, if I actually want to get a hold of the cash and have it deposited into my bank account Paypal takes a fee for doing that.

So unless you plan to leave the money in your paypal account, no matter what way you look at it there is a fee associated with paypal transfers.

Withdrawing is FREE for 150$ or more... and it's 0.50$ under 150$.

Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that it coudl be done VERY cheaply if not free (let's settle for 0.50$ for under 150$ transactions after it has been withdrawn in your bank account and free otherwise..)

Yes, I got your $2 (thank you) without any fees.

Now try $500, but cancel the transaction before you have to confirm.

I'm sure there is a 1% fee for personal payments over a certain amount.

I "think" amounts under $100 are free, but over that amount, it's 1%.
(...still, that's way better than 2.9% for normal payments...)

You can try "for fun" to make a personal payment of $500
and it will prompt you with a warning that you will have to pay a $5 fee
(...you can of course cancel at any point )

I've done two large payments like this, and had to pay 1% each time.
[ NB. This was for a US supplier, so "maybe" things are different within Canada ]

Hmm... this may need further testing. I suggest that ALL members test that out on the donations link on the top left of any maaca page. I will gladly confirm if the theory is sound.

I have a confession to make... Call me old school, but every time I saw someone write FTW, I thought it meant F*ck The World. I was told by my 20-year-old intern that the designation of FTW is really "For The Win", as in depicting exuberance, and that my definition died in the eighties along with mullets.

When sending payments within Canada:

There's only one logical choice: INTERAC EMAIL TRANSFER.

http://www.interac.ca/consumers/productsandservices_ol_emt.php

The sender get's a nomimal fee (a few $$, or depending on your account type, sometimes you get 'X' free transfers per month!)

Money deposited directly in receivers' account.

No % fee
No bad exchange rates
Easy as 1-2-3

I've been sending and receiving MANY of them...from $25.00 to $2000.00 and in Canad, that's the only way I go.

Paypal SUCKS!!!

Mes deux cennes,

Frosken

Current 'working' lineup: ( 2 )
Flipper Football, The Shadow

Gone but not forgotten: ( 22 )
City Slicker, Dirty Harry, CFTBL, Big Shot, Big Guns, Black Rose, Judge Dredd, Indianapolis 500,
Big Game, BS: Dracula x 2, Beat the Clock, Fire!, F-14 Tomcat, Getaway, Breakshot,
Cheetah, Meteor, El Dorado, Nitro Ground Shaker, Chexx Hockey, Slugfest

That's funny, everyone is entitled to his opinion.

My bank doesn't do online Interac, so it sucks for me ...

For those who are still using Paypal, i was just trying to point how to save on fees... within Canada, of course.

EDIT: il semble que ma banque offre maintenant Interac par courriel... --> Des frais de 4 $ sont prélevés du montant déposé.
