Any Xbox 360 fans around here need to do themselves a favour and take a peek at this game.  It's a platform style game that brings to mind a classic amiga game: Another World (AKA Out of this World).  It has a look not unlike a Murnau film (think Nosferatu or Faust), 2d platform/puzzle style gameplay but with a unique look that gives it a great fresh feel.  Although it's gameplay leads you to many instant death scenes, as you get restarted at or very near that same screen, it never feels frustrating and in fact gives it that classic "one more try" that old style gamers appreciate.  Keep in mind, it is horror based so it may not be suitable for all ages.  Although there is no "gun" or weapon on your character (a small child), this is a violent game with violent results to many of the predicaments one encounters.

First playthrough is around 5 hours given the various deaths and although there is some replayability via achievements, one might be taken off by the short lifespan of the game. Some of the earlier puzzles are fairly easy, then the difficulty ramps up a bit and can be pretty tough.  Myself, I was "stuck" twice for about 15 minutes each where I wasn't sure how the heck I could get past this part, but upon further thinking and analysis of the "scene", I was able to move on.  Best compliment I can give the game: upon completing it, I immediately started playing it again, for another 2 hours straight.

Best artistic feel from a game since ICO, it's old-school gameplay married to next-gen artistic touch is a perfect combination.  Limbo is simply put, the best experience I've had on a gaming system in a long time.  As usual with any XBLA games, you can try a demo for free, so do check it out.

Ya, I finished it, short but very cool. If you're a fan of that kind of game, also check out the PC game Heart of Darkness, it was made by the  guy that did Out of This World.

Heart of Darkness: That came out for the Sega Saturn too (I think), I think I have that somewhere.

edit 1:  I was thinking of "Heart of the Alien", a sequel to "Out of this World", but for the Sega CD, not Sega Saturn.

edit 2:  You can run "Heart of the Alien" on the PC via an interpreter, see here for the details (note that you need the SegaCD for this to work... to which I'd add it may be easier to just run the game via a Sega CD Emulator. http://hota.sourceforge.net/

edit 3:  Erich Chachi, creator of Out of this World is getting back into the Game industry, via a new PSN/XBLA game next year called: Project DUST.  Can't really tell what it's about, I read some are saying it's a new take a la "Populous".  Here's the E3 trailer:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8nABQLSfmU
