Tired of always having to order Eproms.  I am too impatient to wait on shipping.  Anyone have a decent programmer that will do the 16's upto the WPC95 chips?

This guy ships from the west coast in Canada.

Willem might not be the easiest to work with but from what I have observed it is relatively inexpensive and capable.... just ask ToMMy for an endorsement.

He sometimes runs a bit of a deal with shipping etc. with ebay sales.

If you want to test drive the one I have first let me know and I will loan it to you.

Which one did you get Glen?  Does it do the older chips and the 8meg chips?

Here is a run down of the supported chips. Now having said that there are various adapters which I don't have to accomplish all of this list, but for the most part I have found with the Eproms I have had to toy with the only adapter (if you would like to call it that) is a transformer to get a higher Vpp for some chips that require it. I have that transformer as well.

In answer to your question I would say yes. Here is a list of sizes of the various Eproms used in a lot of machines. 2532 is not listed on the Willem site it may have a higher Vpp for programming.

2532      4K (4K x 8 )
2716      2K (2K x 8 )
2732      4K (4K x 8 )
2764      8K (8K x 8 )
27128      16K (16K x 8 )
27256      32K (32K x 8 )
27512      64K (64K x 8 )
27010     1M (128K x 8 )
27020     2M (256K x 8 )
27040     4M (512K x 8 )
27080     8M (1024K x 8 )

Now I have not had practical experience programming them all. You may get some feedback from others wrt this list. Steph had mentioned there were some Eproms that Willem had trouble with that he had to buy a more Gucci programmer for. I can't remember if it was related to old video Eproms or old pinball stuff but it was not as common what he needed to do.

As I say Willem tends to be for us poo folk. Maybe not the easiest but quite capable for the $ for most applications.

I wouldn't exactly call a  1978 Data I/0 29B programmer  "Gucci"

Truth be told, I've never owned or even used a Willem.
... but I have programmed eproms for people who do,
and could not get the thing to program what they wanted.

This seemed to be particularly the case of some 2532  .

Some people seem quite happy with their Willem's,
...others not so much so.

The only comment I hear regularly about them, (as Necro pointed out)
is to get the external power adapter/transformer , because the USB voltage
simply isn't reliable enough (...USB was never designed to provide a steady 25V feed ... )

I wrote a small review of the programmers I use
(...if anyone really cares to know...

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Steph

To best get an appreciation of working with a Willem I would suggest downloading the software. You will see that you are required to set a series of dip switches and move a few jumpers. It may not be as easy as some programmers to work with and in many cases may seem like your working with project equipment and pretty much you are.

I have had good and bad experiences with the programmer. More good than bad is all I can say and for the price it puts the hobbiest in the running. For the odd one that gives you trouble then you wait for the pros like Steph   to help you out.

I only ran into one chip that gave me a headache. Gave up trying on it since it was taking more clock cycles than I wanted to put towards it to figure out.

This is the version I have which I believe is a variation of the PCB3 model.
