Getting my sys 11 non working project to figure out.  I'm like a kid in Christmas Story anticipating his Red Ryder BB gun!  I think I like the broken ones more than the working ones.

So, I gave it a once over before turning it on, there are a few fuses missing, but all in all everything for the most part appears to be visibly ok otherwise.  I then noticed a couple of burnt connectors on the interconnect board, mounted in the left side of the BB.  The top right male has some burn marks for the top pin, and the female displays burns.  The left, female is fried to charcoal, and the male headers are gone, and the board displays burns.

I then noticed this on IPDB which displays the exact same problem:

http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=250&picno=39442&zoom=1

I haven’t gone through the manual or schematics yet to see what this is for, however I found this ironic that the game on IPDB had the same issue, and apparently the females are not hanging, and appear to be not in use (mine are still hanging there), or connected together elsewhere and tucked away.

Is this a common issue with this sys11b board?  I have read these boards were changed quite a bit from different versions of sys11’s.

Is there a better fix to prevent this, other than better connectors? (ie new design, additional fuse)

Is it better to just use molex connectors for the pinouts from either side, and join them together off the board (assuming the two top 4-pin connectors are for the same circuit, I haven’t got that far)?

Clay’s page tells me that they didn’t use the interconnect board until Banzai Run, however I have one, and the IPDB shows one, and the manual states this board is called an “interconnect board”.

Aaron

I've taken out the cpu board and have started investigating on the bench.

In the game, only the GI’s came on, no display, nothing else.  As for the diagnostic LEDs, only the 5v would light and stay lit, the “diagnostic” and “blanking” never came on.

Hooking it up to my power supply, I get the same results.  The previous owner noted that a few chips got hot.  In reading Clay’s page, this is a way to test for bad PIAs.  They are all fine except for processors U15 and U24, as well as Game Rom 1 (u27), which get hot, u27 gets real hot and fast.  Game Rom 2, u26, as well as all other chips are fine.

Does this usually indicate these chips are bad, or could the bad processors be a result of a bad game rom 1, and changing out the game rom correct this?

There appear to be no previous work on this board, which I was surprised about.  I believe this came originally from MAACA member streetswepa, as the previous owner had a rescue 911 he bought with it, and this member was selling these on here before.  BG was non-working at that time as well.

I’ve ordered two new game roms, and leon’s test eprom.
