I just bought a game on Ebay, Double Dragon actually. Anyway, my sister is going to pick it up in Windsor. She lives there and can keep it at her place. I'm wondering how I can get it from her place to Ottawa. How much is shipping? What company would I use? Is anyone making that trip already? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I recently had a game shipped from Ottawa to Windsor from Craig (Teamatomics). I believe it was sameday he used and it cost me $145. It was a mame and I think it would weigh at least the same as the double dragon. I was thinking of bidding on that Double Dragon because it was in town here but it got a little to high for me. Anyways if you call SAMEDAY, the terminal I picked it up at is actually Tecumseh(11277 County RD #42, Tecumseh, Ontario), the town just outside of Windsor. It's actually right next to the Windsor airport. So maybe you can send the game back to Ottowa from that terminal. If I can help with anything else just let me know.
Yep, sameday had the best rates. In order to get the best rate though, use a pallet that's as small as possible, they charge you by the width and depth. Sure, they'll ask you for the height and the weight, but the real fact is that the weight restriction goes up to like, 750 lbs (more than enough) and the height you're paying for is from the floor of their truck, to the roof anyway, so the height isn't as important as they might have us believe, in terms of cost.
I've tried different size pallets, use a pallet that's about 4 inches larger than the cab (all the way around) to make it as "tip-over" proof as possible, any more than that, and I think you'd be paying for more space than you have to.
Also, don't rely on their 1 day or 2 day story, they told Troy and I that it would be picked up and delivered in a day, but it was in fact 2. (they claimed because we used the tecumseh terminal). So I'm glad Troy and I didn't pay for speedier shipping, would have been a waste of money.
Other than that though, the cab arrived in fine form, for the best shipping price.

Thanks for the good advice. I called and got a $152 quote. I have a question, do I have to keep the game standing upright at all times or can I lay it down in a van for a short journey? And lastly where can I get a pallet?
Laying down a video arcade game on its back or side for moving/self transport is OK as suggested by Mr.Hide. No need of a pallet if you use your own minivan to pick it up yourself.
HOWEVER, there are steps to take first in order to do this safely:
- ensure the game board, monitor and power supply are very secure inside, so nothing will fall (and risk damage to itself or other components inside) during transport; also check the marquee glass to ensure it will not fall, nor be broken by something else in the van;
- remove the cashbox, manual and other loose items in the cabinet and transport separately
- secure (or remove) the back cover if the lock is opened or missing, especially if you have to transport the game on its side
- protect the back or side artwork with a moving blanket on your van's floor
Good luck, Cheers, - Sylvain
