I think last time I remeber they were in the upper 2K range sometimes hitting 3K if in good shape, but I may be wrong on that.

It's the rarity of the machine that commands the price.

ipdb estimates production at 2500 ish.  Doesn't sound that rare to me.  Even my I500 has a lower production run.  Even if you find one, getting parts for it would be murder (plastics, flipper bats, ramps, etc).  I guess you would need to find a nice one to start with cuz making one nice would be very hard indeed..

I can't see it from work... but it takes a lot to scare me playfield-wise. Anything can be done, given time and money...

I've seen 3 or 4 for sale in the last couple of years. They tend to be $1400 - $1800. There was one in allentown this year with a $1700 price tag, I believe.

Here's the ebay sales summary page for a reference:

Scary monkey's that need to be shot with lasers!  Not very kid friendly.  Not to mention scary snakes in the DMD.

Depends on the kids. My boys (aged 3 to love it. It's got a Gorilla in the lower playfield. It shouts out "Hippos" every now and again. The volcano is very cool. Very fun game for adults as well

I think you are missing the sub-plot in his post   That being, it's scary no one else should buy it, but I'm sure Chris would be happy to hide it away in his basment
