Any experts here?  There's a deal I'm considering on Ebay, a Neogeo AES boxed system with 3 games for a little less than $250US (shipping rate is ridiculous, If I go with it, I'll try and talk him down).  Anyway, it seems to be the Japanese version, does that matter? (ie: any territorial lockout?).

Rob

edit: I see why shipping is so much, it's shipped from Japan...  Starting to not like this deal...

You must really be wanting the wife to kick you in the nuts.......

I see this system as a waste of money, really. You can get the same on an MVS, at a fraction of the cost.
I know the whole "Pokemon Mentality" with collecting, but I truly suggest you let this one pass you by as the cost is NOT worth it.
If it's the "Pokemon Mentality", can you really afford to shell out THOUSANDS of dollars to collect every game and accessory? It will cost you that.

Cover your eyes and pretend this one doesn't exist, otherwise you best add some other systems to your list that I once had.

Bandai Playdia - Hardware pretty close to what an AES goes for, games not as expensive though.
Apple Atmark Pippin - As expensive or more than an AES, games moderately priced and acessories astronomical.

There's some systems better off ignored, the AES is one of them. Get an MVS, put the Unibios on it and be done with it.

*rant over*

What he said. Get an MVS. I'll still answer your question tho

No territorial lock between US and Japan games. All NTSC games will work on any NTSC system and will display on any NTSC TV.

Get a US system with those games for 100$ less if you really want one.

So if I get a unibios in my MVS I can then play AES games?

I really want Riding Hero but I can only ever find it as AES...

Thanks!

Sanity prevailed and I'd already passed on it. However, some clarification.  I'm not looking to collect every game for every system. I really just want the hardware and in some cases a few games, and at the very least ONE game.  I'm in no hurry, just informing myself.  When it comes to the NeoGeo, I'd even settle for a dead AES console with no games.  Anyone have a dead AES?

The MVS thing: I don't have space for more cabs, so if someone's figured out a way to put an MVS setup in a console type shell, than MVS is perfectly ok. If not, now you know why it's not an option, no room!

Thanks for the territorial info Weirdguy

Thanks for the great advice to all.

Even Dead AES system fetch allot of money.

After reading just a few of the messages Ethous, since I'm not a hardware guy I'm convinced that's not an option for me.

AES carts are a different size than MVS carts, so not without an adapter, if one even exists for this purpose.
I doubt it does, considering adapters for MVS to AES are available because AES games cost too damn much.

The Unibios can switch modes between AES and MVS, so if you can find said adapter I see no reason why it wouldn't work. AES and MVS carts have the EXACT same data on them, and lots of MVS games can be played in AES mode with no missing features.

Even the MVS to AES adapter will set one back a few HUNDRED dollars. Yes, the Neo Geo (ob)scene.......
