Hey guys,

I just thought I would post on this due to the amazing results I got. I recently got a Future Spa which is in FANTASTIC condition. The playfield is a bit dirty but has ZERO wear. Not even ball swirls. Even everything under the playfield shines like new. She looks to be HUO. The only thing cosmetically is that the cab is a bit faded.

But... it had no MPU, no solenoid driver and no displays. So... I went apeshit! I didn't want to deal with any issues later on, so I bullet-proofed it. I installed an Alltek MPU, and a Rottendog solenoid driver. The game played nice, but had the typical light flicker when activating the flippers and the lights seemed a bit dim... so I installed a Rottendog power supply board on the transformer.

...WOW.

No more light flickering, and the lights are brighter!

So my recommendation to you all is that if you have a classic Bally or Stern with a hacked up power supply board, spend the 55$US. It is WELL worth it.

Now all I have left to do is recap the sound board and install Pinscore displays, and she will be good for another 30 years.

Needless to say, all my other classic Bally and Stern keepers will get the same treatment.

Having done this to a pin, myself, I highly recommend it too.

Heh... funny you mention this Ian.  When Cooke and I were @ the A-town show last year we talked Jim into making this power supply then.  The only place you could get one at the time was GPE and Ed was consistantly out of stock and wasn't sure if/when he would make more.

I bought 3 of them already, and plan on getting more. It only takes a few minutes to solder the wires in the proper area (well identified).

I do understand some collectors that prefer keeping original boards and I do respect that, but man... this is so much less of a hassle. but in case I sell a pin later, I keep the original boards.

I wish he would hurry up with the SYS7 board so I could do a full board swap for my BK.

That's awesome news, only a few months away and my BK will finally be 100%.

Now all I would need is a replacement power board for later SS Ballys like Flash Gordon and Elektra (AS-2518-64). That would be nice!!

Those powers supplies are usually pretty robust and don't have nearly as many flaws as the earlier design. That's probably why they're not reproduced... they don't tend to be all hacked and burned.

As for bulletproofing old Sterns and Ballys, I've found that in addition to a rebuilding or installing a new power supply, repinning nearly every .100 connector on the MPU and driver is also a necessity. In fact, the vast majority of problems I've been encountering lately (once the standard power supply, MPU and driver board upgrades are dealt with) have all been connector-related -- everything from power and coil issues to switch and lamp issues. The connectors seem to be degrading at a rapid pace.

That's because their normal life expectancy was 5 years!!!

If Rottendog is coming out with a sys7 MPU, will it be integrated with their sys3-6 MPU or will it be stand alone?
