So, My wife and I have been restoring a Bally Star Trek for the past few months. Our intent was to get it all fixed up and give it as a present to her Dad for Father's Day. So the project have moved along nicely. I had replaced the rectifier board, installed all new pinscore displays, purchased a new ulitmate MPU and Mcmean had repaired the original MPU.
mrniceguy had picked up some stencils for us, they worked like a charm. I got new drop targets, rubbers, all replaced all the lighting. We cleaned the switches, waxed the playfield, we really put some work into this machine.
So todays the big day. We leave early for the inlaws, get there before my Father in law does. We set the machine up, have a star ship enterprise model as a topper. Everything is perfect. He shows up and we have the big unveiling. Of course he loves the machine and thanked us all
My wife's brother and family are there and our nephew is enjoying the machine. Shortly after he comes to me and says "there is no sound". I have a look and sure enough there isn't...and all the switched lights are out. So, I'm trying to troubleshoot the machine with no meter or tools, hoping for the magic fix that doesn't come. I finally track down that it's definitely the sound board and disconnect it. The machine works fine now, but there is no sound.
My mother in law says to me" don't worry Peter, it's fine without sound", to which my seven year old nephew chimes in "your wrong grandma...it's nothing without sound" The killer is he's right.
So we cut our visit short, the sound issue is bothering me so much I decide we will head home test the sound board, and if need be replace it with one from my machines and head back in the morning.
Were driving back to Kingston on Perth Village road and come across an accident. No one was hurt, but there is a deer lying injured on the road. I call 911, pass on the details to the operator, and wait at the scene as instructed. The OPP officer shows up, pulls out his pistol, and puts the deer out of it's pain......right in front of my wife. I respect the officer, that has to be a hard thing to do, but.....right in front of my wife.
The man who hit the deer is also still there, a younger guy driving a honda civic. The officer looks at the young guy and says" Do you want it?" The young man was in a bit of shock, and didn't know how to respond. At this point we headed home. I know everything was handled as it should of been, but still it feels a little surreal.
Sorry to hear about the bad day, I recall how excited you were when you were telling me about the pin for your father in law. I bet your father in law is still happy as heck that you both worked so hard on such an awesome present.

Awesome father's day gift. It'll all get settled. I've been wanting to do the same for my dad, too. Great you got it done.
As for the dear, I have a few wanna-be redneck friends. They are city-guys, but they wanna learn to hunt, skin, etc. Kinda all started after the power outage a few years back where they realize how helpless they are, "If a dear walked right by, I wouldn't know how to kill it, or how to skin it.". My friend was behind the guy who hit a dear. He stopped, ask the guy if he wanted it, and he didn't, so he claimed the dear. He called a buddy who came quickly, the dear was still alive, they had no gun so they took a climbing/hiking knife to put it out of its misery as best they knew. I wasn't there, but the image of a guy in an Audi A4 hacking away at a dear's neck on the side of Moodie in Ottawa makes me wonder how many 911 calls the police received. They waited for the police, police were fine with the events. Went home and another buddy (a trained chef) ran 15km with a set of knives to skin the dear. Sad, for the dear, but at least the meat got used. Crazy buggers!
Honda Civic's must be deer magnets. When I had my old Honda Civic back in the late 80's, early 90's I managed to hit two deers, on two separate occasions! One near the Toronto Zoo, another in north Ajax. What are the odds?
I also hit a 3rd deer near my house in my Ford, but that's another story....
Is it an atom? No, it's multiball! Complete MAACA-Wacko!

Regarding your dad's machine, that's awesome! What a lucky guy. The sound board issue will get resolved no doubt. I hope my son gets me an Iron Man one day, and since he's not yet 3 perhaps there will be a deal on a nice fixer upper by then.
Thankfully it was a wild animal mortally injured, not a person. However unpleasant, it's all a part of nature.
I have a spare working soundboard, tested it in my lost world last night. Work great. I'll be heading back up shortly and this time I remembered the camera so I will take a few pics.
It seems that recovering highway knock downs is common in Ontario, I've never really heard of this before. I'm from Newfoundland and I've never seen a knocked down moose recovered for later use. In the area I grew up in there were quite a few highway accidents involving moose, and each time the animal was destroyed. Not sure why the difference.
