Does anyone have any idea roughly what sort of pricing I can expect for a new Stern from Starburst (Toronto), ie. Spider-Man?
I haven't been there since I picked one up in 2003, and back then the CDN$ was a lot weaker compared to the US$. It's a bit of a drive for me, so I'm just hoping to figure out in advance whether they're going to be competitive with some of the US pricing I've seen.
Yeah, that's my concern... they see a "home" customer and the price goes up 40%. Thing is, I know what I can get it delivered to my door for from the US, and while I would prefer the Canadian version with CDN coin mechs I'm not going to pay a huge premium for it.
I also looked up what I paid last time (after negotiation) and converted it to US using a histrorical exchange rate converter... and so even with a factory price increase on newer Sterns I would hope it would be around what you estimated.

If Starburst tries to take you to the cleaners ping Jack at pinball sales. He told me he would have no problem shipping to Canada. He has a good rep with the US collecting community and often has competitive prices. http://www.pinballsales.com
Just more info to help you along your acquisition ... hope it helps.
Yeah, Jack is already my "plan B"! I do prefer the Canadian version, though (he can't get them), and so overall hope that Starburst will play ball.
I don't begrudge them a decent profit, they have to stay in business after all, I just want it to be in line with other sources.
Pardon my possibly silly question but what is the "Canadian version"? I have a CDN Stern and an American Stern and only noticed the stickers on the glass from US Stern and probably the coin mechs altho didn't look that closely at them.
I would try starburst first, just keep reminding them the CDN dollar is not far from par with the US dollar they cannot use that as an excuse.
Unless they have the machine in stock for last 6 months or more and bought it when the dollar was higher. If they are ordering from the factory now, they have no excuses, but I am sure they will want to move existing inventory.
It has been scientifically proven that light is faster than sound. That is why some people seem brilliant........until they open their mouth!

TIA ME
Coin mechs are the only difference that I know.

Speaking of which, does anyone know what the current coin mechs are on Canadian Sterns? For my last machine it was 0.25/0.25/$1... have they switched to 0.25/$1/$2 yet?
The new coin mechs are $1/$1/$2 NIB was $4,550 + tax in December 2006 (over 6 months ago). I expect NIB to be substantially cheaper now as the CDN dollar must have appreciated by approximately 10% since then. By that logic, NIB should be appoximately $4,100.

Wow! If NIB Spiderman is $4,100 plus tax, I will be re-thinking my current collection. Last I heard, it was, as Mark said, $5,100 taxes in. If anyone happens to discover something different, would appreciate knowing
